L Performance Question . . .

Just curious . . . I figured this is the right place to ask

What kind of performance numbers would a BONE STOCK L put up? I guess I mean 0-60 and 1/4 mile times . . . stuff like that.

I'm thinking of buying a new toy next fall when the 4x4 is paid off and the decision is between a boat, an L, or a stang . . . maybe a Honda S2000.

I know they are fast, but what do they feel like to drive? I've rode in a 98 Firebird with the 350 and 6 speed and that was pretty fast. How would an L compare? I assume it would beat up on a Mustang GT but what about the Firebirds and Camaros? Other than that, are there any other "street" cars that would even be close (I realize that Vette's and Vipers are probablly trouble)?

Also, in a street setting I guess the auto has advantages over the manuals . . . I would guess they are alot more consistent. The performance times in the manuals sound good but you'd have to hit everything perfect to pull them off. How do you guys find the L' s to perform in the "real world"?

Thanx!

Cougar Guy:

I've had a few 'quick cars, a 1979 Trans Am WS6(last 400 ci high-performance big-block Pontiac made)-5 speed, a 1991 Camaro Z281LE(6 point roll-cage, balanced & blue-printed 310 ci V8), and a 1986 Saab 9000 Turbo. The last two were 'twisty-track cars and I ran them at Road Atlanta and Roebling Road tracks.

My 01 L is the most satisfying, quickest vehicle I've ever driven. I have gotten it into the 12s(see sig.) with just a few mods. The only 'changes' that I do to it to drag race it is to remove the tail gate and put on the drag tires and wheels. Other than that, I drive it daily to work and get 14+ mpg. It is a 'hoot' whether on the interstate or on the track. It is so 'anonymous'--hey, it's only a F150 among millions of others--until the unsuspecting competitor hears the scream of the open-air intake(The exhaust just purrs quietly.)--and then, it's usually too late!

Get one. I don't think you'll be sorry.

Dan

I sold my 98 Trans Am WS-6 to get into my L after I test drove one!!! My L with only a few mods is just as fast as my T/A was with much more $$$ worth of mods.

I have no doubt you will be VERY happy with an L. The craziest thing is that the L gets more attention (thumbs up, looks, compliments, etc.) than my WS-6 did!!!

Here's my WS-6 - LINK

Honda skid 2000? From all of the discussion boards, the s2000 suffers from a snap oversteer condition?....Many unexperienced drivers usually biff it as in this video below

Speaking from personal experience, a Lightning will have no problem keeping up with a S2000 as long as no twisties are involved. I stayed even with one all the way up to 95, so it's just about as fast. Of course, then I had a 75 mph corner that the Honda took straight out, but.. you win some you lose some.

You can't ignore the "Sleeper" factor that the L has....

This fact alone will get you looks that you never would have dreamed of getting in any other vehicle. Any L owner can testify to that.
