how to replace your 99-00 foglights with reproduction units for a mustang..(big pics)

i bought some replacement lenses from Texas Mustang Parts http://www.texasmustang.com
Our 99-00 lenses are the exact same as 87-93 Mustang Fog lights. Texas Mustang sells them for $17.95 each.
they are reproduction units, and come with bulbs!!!!

all you have to do is make an adapter for the ground wire..

to get the foglights out, pry up on this tab here:

here is a shot of the old and new units together:

notice the different sized grounds on the new and old lens:

here are the connectors i used to make the adapters:

use a pair of side cutters to make a male spade connector that will fit into the female ground connector on the factory wiring harness:

i ended up using bigger wire than the black wire shown above.
here are the pieces before crimping:

here it is on the new foglamp:

modify the black rubber cover to allow the spring clip to poke thru:

Hehehehe I had to replace mine too but at the time I didn't have any extra wire or crimps lying around. So I used the Dremel and grinded the ground tab down a little.

Ok this is my stupid question of the day..... I know my 02's look different but do they install the same as the 99-00's?

Also, both of my 02's fog lights have little cracks all over them. I noticed the first crack @ 1000miles and have 2800on her now. The cracks are not caused by rocks (no chips) the cracks seem to be internal like they are caused by heating and cooling or something, You know like if you heat glass up then poor water on it the small internal cracks it causes?? I have seen it done on TV before on one of those HGTV shows or something but seriously anyone know what is causing this? Maybe there is a cooler bulb made? I hate to change the lens until I can figure out what is causing it to crack in the first place.

I just replaced one of my fog lights this weekend, had a big hole where it got hit by a rock. I ground down the terminla also and used the factory connection. The new lenses appear more clear than the factory ones or is it just my imagination. Will end up replaceing the other one now. It also appears that the beam pattern is different from the stock lenses. It has a definite horizontal cutoff even with the same bulb.

Bumpers are different on 99/00 vs. 01/02's this is why we with newer can not go to the old style...

Thanks for the info.

Searches shows a lot of people complaining about them and even more replacing them but not a real “fix” or lens that doesn’t crack from heat.

Does anyone think Ford will come up with a better lens or should I just accepted the cracks and start swapping lens every 1000 miles or so?

Brooks, I had to do that about 3 months after I got my "L". Your 3" jumper brought back memories.

I bought mine from Susquehana Motorsports. The price was about the same, as they were also Mustang GT replacements.

When I finished, I covered mine with a 10 mil aircraft vinyl, to prevent rocks from shattering the lenses. I have not replaced one since. That was almost two years ago.

I went with this style from LateModel Restoration Supply

I like the look, thx for the info on the conversion, took 15 minutes to do both, I ended up soldering the wider spade plug on since if these break then I can just replace them quick
