PATS system

Since my truck is a '98 I don't have PATS. My friend has a '00. Since I believe the Lightnings have it I will ask your advice.

The key to my friends truck broke in half last night. None of the dealerships are open to make a key today. How can we get his truck to work until Monday?

We have the transponder in the broken key.
We have a copy of the key without the transponder.

Is there anything that would disable the vehicle so that it wouldn't be driveable for any period of time?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hold the black end of the PATS key as close as you can to the keyslot as you crank it with the good nonPATS key. It only needs to see the key there for a second each time you start it

if what jefflaws said doesnt work and your really desperate or plan on getting a remote start you can go down to your local kragen[its like an autozone i think] and get the PATS bypass that they use for remote start systems. you open it up and slip the black part of the key[the part with the chip] into the "bridge" of wires[youll see what i mean if you get it]. then you have to wire it to a 12V source. then theres a black wire you wrap around the ignition[in between the steering column and where you put ur key in]. that should work but it will cost you about $50 plus the time it takes to install it. but if your really desperate and what jefflaws said doesnt work than thats probly your only choice.
