Another Bassani Question

Well the Bassani is in and sounds awesome. I just have a few more questions. I think I remember a post a while back, about having to stack washers some where (I don't remember) because their wasn't enough threads on the bolts (again I don't remember which bolts). Should this stack of washers have gone on the x-pipe clamp bolts. see pic (if it works)

The problem I had was, I couldn't get the clamps tight enough. On my first test drive after one good launch the x-pipe seperated from the cat pipe (the thing was wicked loud). Luckly the hangers keep me from running the damn thing over. So I reattached it and tightend the clamps as tight as they would go, they seem to have some sort of stopper in them, so they would only tighten to a certain point. Anyway on the next drive same thing. So I got fed up and welded both sides of the x-pipe. But after looking at some pictures tonight I think that if I had stacked washers in the bolts on the clamps this would have solved my problem.
What do you guys think?

I just cranked the ***** outta mine and they were tight. I know what you mean about running out of thread, mine were right at the bottom of the bolt. It can't hurt to do what you said with the washers.

ok,, here is what i did,, this will work very similiar in strength to a weld. tighten the bolts as tight as they can go with a longer wrench so you can get more toque to the bolts. Then on top of each nut, tighten another nut as tight as it will go. This should never come loose after you've tightened two nuts on top of each other. I had the same problem,, did this and never had a problem since. Also make sure your tips are nice and centered in the cutouts to the side, i had to adjust mine to get it just right after i drove it for a while.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah,, and if that doesn't work or you dont have U-Bolts,, I'd go to home depot and buy some, in my experience they work much better.
