i am using the new purolater 1 supreme filter and motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend although wal mart will soon stop selling the oil, said ford does not cut any price slack on the oil
the new purolater 1 filter has the new silcon o ring in the backflow valve to stop dirty oil from going back into engine.when it is turned off. PS: i am using the NEW microtech pureone, not an oversized one>

Ha... In my book this doesn't help the oil filter suvery ...
"if you are thinking of trying out different filters, or ones we haven't listed here, be careful! In the course of testing, I tried a Purolator PureOne oversized filter (PL10193); it leaked pretty bad. Upon inspection, I found the gasket to be MUCH too large, large enough that the oversized M1-105 filter (and M1-104, OEM size) gasket actually fit inside it"
I would know right away that it was too big and would never have used it if the gasket fit inside of another one.....
It was interesting to read about the filters though...

He's inspired by the clown at the Mopar site. All he did was cut up a bunch of filters and measure the filtering media. Never actually did anything relevant like test to what micron each filtered out contaminants. The "rocket scientist" as he said thinks 200 square inches of media is better than 100. Why? I'd rather have 100 square inches of high quality material than 200 square inches of something you could throw a cat through. There's more to it than looking at amounts of unknown material. Neither have the test equipment needed to give info that is relevant.

I agree with Thunder...........you can't judge a book by it's cover, and you definately can't judge a oil filter just by what it looks like and how much of whatever is in there. It was interesting to read, but I wish someone would release a professional oil filter review. My friend is thinking about doing one since he's a Junior majoring in Engineering Mechanics specializing in fluid dynamics and some other stuff I forgot. The only thing that's stopped him is that he's trying to find a way to get the University to let him use some of the labs for this, and of course, the high cost of purchasing the filters.
