Smile I did it!!!!!

I finally broke into the 12's!!!!.Not by much but I did it. 12.972@104.23. I am a little dissapointed seeing as JDM told me I should be going mid 12's even faster if I hook up. I have a chip,airfilter,4# lower pulley, and a 2400 stall converter. I think the converter is slipping up top but not sure. Pulls hard out of the hole but feels like it falls up top. I may swap converters this week and see what happens. Maybe it is my chip>??? Not enough fuel>?? I don't know any suggestions anyone>??? Oh yeah my 60' were 1.85's. Thanks for any help guys. Oh and for the record I was all smiles after the 12sec run, but pretty upset the rest of the day. -Mat-

Sounds like you are losing a substantial amount of power on the top end. With those mods, you should be in the mid-low 12's! Your 60 ft. times are mid 12 times. With just a 2# pulley and JDM warm weather program as my only mods I pulled 1.914 60's and 12.95 @ 106 1/4 times. Speaking of track times, I gotta get back in the swing of things and see what this monster will do now!

what track did you run at, and what were the temps?

It does sound like you are loosing a little bit on the top end.

If you think you are having fuel problems, maybee it is the filter, how many miles on the fuel filter?

Don,
I ran at E-town on Saturday not a good weather day. Mid 70's and humid. My fuel filter has 8300.0 on it. I haven't changed it yet. Am I stupid for this>??? Thanks for any help.

Skank,
I know I am losing it up top. I ran against another L my last run with everything I have but a converter. And he has a 1# upper pulley. I was head until about mid track then he walked right by me. I have a full tenth better in the 60' then him too!

Thanks for any1's help. -Mat-

who's torque converter is it?
Did you get it from JDM, maybee it is the problem.

You may get a extra tenth or two on a less humid day.

Change the filter, and let us know how you make out.

It is a "Pro Torque" converter. I rebuild trannys so I get deals on converters from them since that is who we use. I spoke with JDM again today and Jim said it would either be the filter or a spark plug...maybe I got some bad gas one day and burned one. I hope that is all. I am gonna try and change the filter 2morrow and see how that works out and then do the plugs if I have no luck with the filter. I will let you know. Thanks again for the help.

Ya bad gas can clog a filter real quick. I had to change out a filter with less than 1000 miles due to some bad gas. You should have seen the crap that came out of it.

I had the Pro Torque converter in my '99 with great results (1.6x 60 ft). That was only with a chip, filter, and 3# pulley.

I would lose top end depending on how warm the truck was (as everyone would). This was really noticeable on hot lap runs.

I bought mine through Level 10. When I asked my tuner why he thought this was happening, he said my lock-up clutch was slipping. But it was not!! Could have been a ploy to get me to buy his converter.

I was told to pull the inspection plug from the bottom of the trans and look to see if the paint is bubbling around the converter close to the flywheel. If it is, the lock-up clutch is slipping, heat is building in the trans, and the whole time your loseing top end.

I'm curious how much you let your truck cool down before the next run.

Hope this helps

J

I try and let it cool for a while. I am sure it would run better if I let it sit a while. I changed the fuel filter today. I am pretty sure there is a difference. It was the hottest weather my truck has ever been run in and it felt the fastest it ever has. I would like to put in the NGKTR6's anyways so. I will have to wait and see at the track this weekend if the weather is nice. If any1 would like to meet at E-town let me know. I will post some times. Thanks again every1. -Mat-
