Bed Hit cab on speed bump, beware!

Hey folks,

Well i am througly pissed at my truck today. I hit a sharp speed bump at around 5 mph. i heard a BANG, thought it was just the a arm slipping as usual. Get home and was looking, the bed of the truck HIT the back of the cab!!!

Looking at it closer, it seems the bed is not lined up properly on the frame. I took it to the dealer months back for a squeak i had in the bed area, and all i can gather is that the squeak was the bed slipping back and forth on the bolts in the back. Thus gettin it very close on the passenger side and eventually smacking the cab.

I would guess there is a 1/2 differance in gap from the drivers side to the passenger side. Soo go look at your trucks guys see if yours is like that.

Its going to teh dealer tomarrow if i have time to see if that is something they will cover. If not there will be hell to pay!

umm when was the last time you wanted to take your 33k$ truck FAST through a set of speed bumps? Um never. ok lemme give you another way to think about this, your cruising along on the highway at 65mph and hit a steep pot hole. Should your bed hit your cab? NO. I was going 5, take it tons of times, but this time aparently the bed had shifted to that side.
Ding a wheel sure, blow a tire sure, flex the frame enough at 5mph to smack the cab? Thats just poor design. MY FYI might help someone prevent this from happening to their truck so...
Go flame someone else, and quit trying to be funny. Your not very good at either.

(getting angry at stupid people)

PS I can slow down QUICK in my truck with my hand on the bed through the rear window and can feel it moving forward 1/2 inch. Thats definitly my fault eh?

Cool

HI!... That's nothing new. I have the same "DIMPLE" on my truck from a off-road adventure about 3 years ago. A ton of guys with the older "97" 4x4's have this too.

Your not the only one that had the cab not being alinged with the bed lots of lightning oweners including me had that problem and not just lightning owners also regular f150's to. As for it hitting the cab i never had that happen but im guessing why it is that the bolts arent tight. So as for taking it to the dealer heres the real easy fix that i did that fixed the alinment problem. You see in the pics you took of the bed overhead. Well see that bolt there should be six of them in the bed that hold the bed in place. Just loosen them up ,i think you need a T-55 Torque bit, and slide the bed over until its alined and tighten the bolts down. Hopefully this will take care of the sliding problem to.
