Volant... and a cut
Volant... and a cut
Volant is on.
Quality of parts are good. Filter is 9" (too small?), closed end cone. HORRIBLE instructions however. Well, make that no instructions, just a picture. I mean, it's not hard to do, it's just nice to skim before doing. Performance is good. Throttle response was improved. Truck pulls hard longer. Sound is louder than stock, but not open cone loud, seems 'deeper' than open cone's scream. Good sound, perfect. The MAF sensor is relocated to 'top' of MAF (maf is rotated 90 degrees). Why?
The volant intake tube is kind of 'coned'. Obviously that is an attempt to 'guide' the air quickly into the the throttle body. The tube is smooth on the inside. So is the inside of the filter box.
Only took short drive. Will drive for 2 days and monitor for SES lights. Truck is stock minus Bassini catback.
Complaints, Tips....
You sould assemble the halves and then install halves in truck, then connect. (Half = Gasket Tubes + Intake Tube)
The clamp that holds the 'Hump Tube' did not fit on my '01 MAF. I had to take hose clamp from stocker to use.
They should have put 'pegs' on the bottom to put into the stock gromets.
Air temp sensor gromet is too loose, and too deep. They should have made some way to lock that piece there. Mine almost popped out.
The MAF should NOT be put on the box till yer done with the multi-part gasket, and assembled the intake tube and gasket tubes over the Throttle Body. When yer banging on that gasket, don't want to mess up MAF. Same applies to Air Temp Sensor.
The darn gasket that goes over the end to 'seal' against wall of truck (where the hole is) is friggin impossible to get on. It's stiff and doesn't take the 90degree corners. DO THIS... Look in the channel and you'll see a 'hook'; that goes to the inside of the filter box inlet opening. When you get to corner part of the inside, in. Just 'flare' (not the Office Space kind) it out at corners.
There is no hose to adapt the valve cover breather to the Volant hole. There is one for the other one (air dump i think) that adapts it well, so I cut it and used a piece for the valve cover breather. It doesn't fit well.. however, it's probably not importart to be tight there.
I cut my finger with razor blade cutting hose... Don't repeat this step.

I`d be careful of those Hump Tubes..may be indicitive of Arabic influence and thus suspect. Volant, isn`t that French for fast or winged. Damn thing might get up and fly into the next Sunoco station attendant and wound the Patriotic low paid bastard. I`m considering removal of the MAF Sensor from my truck. I heard a rumor ,I think, that states ,MAF stands fo Militants Against Fascists......I wouldn`t wanna support any ****in` Militants.

Drove it the whole weekend. Truck definately performs better with it. The first guy who posted about the Volant said he gets an SES with his large pulley and the volant. I'm stock and don't get an SES. I suspect when I put my pulley on, I will be drilling holes in the box.
Eric there is no reason you should get the SES light unless something is broken or not plugged in right.
My Opinions on the system from a glance: It looks pretty, and retains a factory finished look to it also (not my style though). Sounds a bit louder then sotck, but could be a bit whinyer!
Hopefully this weekend you'll let me hack it up for you brother, HEHEHEHEHE.
