Volant update
Well, I've had this thing installed for 2 1/2 weeks now. The first week I had 2 service engine lights. I removed the box from around the filter and ran it that way for a week and a half. No more codes. Can anybody say airbox evacuation?
It seems that modifying the box is not an option. It's a requirement. With the mods I have it is anyway. It might work OK for a stock vehicle. The problem is that the filter has a plastic cap on the end of it which fills the intake area of the box and blocks incoming air. If a replacement filter could be found that resembles the Power Shot filters this could be remedied easily, I think, without cutting the airbox.
Since I intended modifying the box anyway...... Here's some pictures of what I did. The holes measure 2.5 inches each. I went with 4 smaller holes instead of 1 large one so that there would be enough draw on the ram air kit to continue to pull in outside temp air.

K&N Extreme Filter
Odin's Wrath;
I found the following website from K&N which might have a filter that would meet your need for better breathing. Just scroll down toward the bottom of the website page.

bigred4x4,
Thanks for the link. I've been looking at those for a few days now. I think I'm going to leave it like I have it now, for a while, and see how it works out. I need to measure the filter I currently have and see if K&N has a replacement that will work for me.
