Where to find 5.4 engine block or complete shortblock

I am looking for a bare 5.4 engine block. I stopped by the Ford dealer today at lunch to see how much one would be. From the look on the kids face you would have thought I asked for a jet engine. He could not find it in the computer and there was no one else around to help him. Other than trying again later at the dealer are there any other sources for a engine block? I have heard people mention that one of the tuners was building short blocks but I have not seen them listed on there parts list or heard of any prices. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Here are some Lightning long blocks:

You'll have to dig back through these posts for about a month to find who was planning to build short blocks. Lightning Tuner maybe?

I know for sure that sal(PSP) and jim(JDM) will build you whatever you want. I am having a shortblock built for me by sal right now. Just call them up and tell them what you want and they will probably build it for you. I know someone that is having sal build them a long block with a billet crank which is good up to like 2000hp, ported and polished heads, having NX make a manifold with direct port nitrous injection, and some other crazy parts. Sal will do anything from mild to wild....jim would proabably to but i cant say for sure.

Your can find them at some of the online parts dealers like fordpartsonline. I think I have some part numbers at home. One thing I remember is there is/was a seperat part number for 99-00 & 01s. The 01 part was almost $300 more

Some debate as to whether or not there is any difference.
