It's a higher viscosity oil, therefore less tendancy to creep up those breather lines. It also can soak the blow of piston/bearing/sleeve better. The friction modifier insures big bearing lubrication and cylender wall coating. When I raced turbo Starion / Conquests I used the thicker oils to protect the turbo at higher boost level. This MOD motor when modified can benefit from the thicker fraction oils as well. In warmer weather it will flow well so no worries. If you are in lower temp enviorments that are still hovering around 20 - 55 F then you should stick with the 10-30W for now....

Hi guys;

It's tough to tell the deference between 5-20 and 5-30 or 10-30 when you are draining during a oil change, without scientific equipment.

There is a fairly different look to any multi-vis oil with a 50 weight in its viscosity index when draining---it just doesn't look as thin or 'watery' as the lighter stuff. I 've found this even more true with synthetics.

There has been some that have received grief for warranty work due to using non-recomended viscosity oil in the engine.

Although it is probably b/S and the result of C.A.F.E. requirements, it could be another nail to use in the warranty denial coffin.

Regards,

Frank

Thumbs up

I went with the heavy weight oil 10w-30 syn, for a couple weeks. But on the morning starts i was getting the dry rattle, the thicker oil was not getting to the top of the engine fast enough. So ...... i dumped out the 10w-30 and put in 5w-30 Royal Purple so far it's worked great (400mi so far).

Thats what I'm worried about, My truck sits for a week at a time when I'm driving it during the summer and I don't want to dry start it with a ticker oil. My 5w-30 is working great so far, but I'm thinking about going to a 10w-30 cause my truck never sees temps below 50 degree, even in the winter cause my garage is heated.
