GM Joins the party....Finally!
Looks like GM is finally getting organized. I guess after PVO joined SVT's ranks...GM decided they couldn't be left out of the party.
WARREN -- General Motors Corp. has pulled together all of its high-performance vehicle projects under one roof in a bid to strengthen storied muscle car brands such as Chevrolet's SS and engineer a new performance lineup for Cadillac... The new GM Performance Division -- a team of about 200 engineers, designers and technicians headed by executive director Mark Reuss -- will also develop and build all future GM concept cars and trucks for future auto shows.

Its going to take me a while to view Cadillac as the performance division of GM.
Also, the SS they are mentioning must be the Impala, as so far as I know, the Camaro is bye-bye next year.
Likely it will take a couple of years to actually ramp up a production performance truck...

Saleen:
According to the article, "A year ago, Reuss was the head of development for the Pontiac Aztek and Buick Rendezvous." IIRC, the head of development has some control over the body of the car. I like Lutz, I think that he is currently GM's best hope, but if this guy is the best he can find within the company, well, let's just say that I'm not optimistic for their future.

Not if they mean development as in Product development. PD (in ford speak anyway) is a fancy name for engineering. They have no control over design.
It also does not say how long he was on the program. Typical in the auto industry...people are thrust into programs that are halfway started and at that point he would have little to know control over vehicle design..other than to just make sure it was properly engineered to the specs created.

They are bringing the holden to the US. Probably as a Pontiac GTO. It'll have a 350hp 5.7l v8.
about 10 years ago GM made a couple competitors for the current Lightnings...The GMC Typhoon and Syclone.

However there is already talk of a return of the F-body in '04/'05. It will return with a complete redesign, including a new chasis, and an independant rear (god, I hope not). HP and Performance specs are still up in the air, but the number 385 has been mentioned several times
. Naturally this all rumor and hear-say right now. I only hope that the new S/C'd Cobras are HUGE sellers for Ford....perhaps that will light a fire under GM's a$$, and expedite the return of a RWD/V8 muscle car (other than the vette). <fingers crossed>
