Door chime disable?
Door chime disable?
Sorry to ask,but without a search engine...I saw a thread a while back about disabling the annoying Door Chime . While the key is in the ignition with the driver's door open. Thanks in advance for any help.
hmm,, this gets rid of seatbelt noise too,, when you hear the nois,, simply press in the driver side side belt button ( thing you plug your seatbelt into) hold it down for a second and then let go and it should go away, not so sure about door chime with this, but i'm positive about seatbelt chime.

No, it's not the same thing. There is a sequence shown in your owner's manual on how to disable the Seat Belt Reminder. But nothing about the Door Chime for keys in the ignition.
thats weird though, i could have swarn i did that today when i was washing my truck, maybe i was wrong though and it just went off automatically or i hit something else. I remember someone posting on this board that the owner's manual tells how to do it, but i've never checked for myself either.

if the key is forward, the door chime will go off after a few minutes...I found that out this weekend when i was waxing my truck..

I started that thread about two months ago and got great tips on cutting/splicing the module wires to disable the chime. However, I f**ked up and did not print it out so cannot offer it to you - sorry. And yes, your manual gives you exact directions on disabling the seatbelt reminder.
Wolff,I already did the seat belt warning disable as per the owners manual. Was lookin for a way to disable the chime while in the acessory position when the driver's door is open.Like when detailing/waxing etc...Not really sure I wanna go cuutin' and a splicin' on my newtruck tho!Thx!
Hmmm, I havent looked at the L yet, but on my chevrolet I left the door open and tracked the chiming noise under the dash and found that it was just a little box that plugged into an electrical outlet. I unplugged the little "chim box" and threw it in the glove box!! Problem fixed. Im gonna go check the L out!

I haven't tried that in the L, but I did it on my '98 F150 and it made the radio come on. And I couldn't turn it off.

I found my original thread from Feb...
My suggestion is to simply interupt the door pin wire coming from the drivers door. There is no easy way to get rid of the chimer...you can take the piezo out of the module and replace it with an appropriate size resister, but to me it would be easier to do this:
Locate teh GEM module above the fuse box. In the harness you will find a black yellow wire (drivers door pin) and a black pink wire (passenger door pin) snip the black yellow wire, and also clip the black pink wire. Use diodes to isolate each wire from the other, and attach both of them back to the black pink wire. This will allow your drivers door to still work the domelight. Be a 10 min fix, and would do what you wanted without tearing anything up. And if you ever need to put it back its easy to do....
