Next Gen Options In Lightning Survey - MUST READ!
I received a letter yesterday from SVT asking me to participate in an internet survey on the Lightning. My first impression that it was probably just a customer satisfaction thing. WRONG!! It dealt almost entirely with future engine, trannie, suspension and appearance options along with some emphasis on cost. It took almost a half an hour to complete and was extremely interesting. Engine options offered ranged from a 425 hp 5.4 to a 500 hp all aluminum 8.3, with trannie options of a 6 speed manual to a 5 speed auto, or a 6 speed paddle. An independent rear suspension option was included as was Brembo brakes and a 20 inch wheel selection. Pricing ranged from 33k to 40k, depending on options included. Bottom line, research must be ongoing now for the GEN 3, Good news for us Lightning lovers. (stock 1/4 times were listed for each of 14 configurations, low was 12.6 if I remember correctly)!

I did my survey yesterday, it was very interesting to say the least. I was planing to keep my 01 L till i was older & grayer. After doing the survey
i may have to trade my baby in on the next gen (depending on the body style).
I think it would be hard to improve on the looks of the current L, except bigger tires maybe. I also think they gave away the true HP of the new Cobra 425 hp
& 425tq.

I also took the survey yesterday. Very interesting to say the least! I was excited for the rest of the day thinking about what the next generation L will be like. I expect the price to go up to around $36-37,000 even more with the V10, with was listed as a $3000 upgrade I believe.
I have a good feeling about the next L! I think SVT is gonna go "***** to the wall"!!!!

Wow... all the options look great. A 5.4 s/c with 500hp and 500ft/lbs of torque, great option of transmissions. I only have one question.... What about traction? Its a mean truck, but as it is Lighting owners have traction problems. How do they expect anyone to keep the truck from spinning with 500hp and 500ft/lbs of torque? What I would like to see as a possible option is AWD. Even though it is heavy, I think that would help the truck move quite a bit. Especially with that much power!
The future looks bright with the L. Keep it up Ford.

Boy am I pissed!
First of all with build #247 of the 1999 run, I did not even get a chance at the survey and it seems only 2000/2001 owners have gotten it from what I see.
Then, the link disappeared between the time I logged on at my business and when I got home where I was going to go through the program even if I couldn't send it.
If someone would be kind enough to e-mail me the file or whatever, I would appreciate it and will not attempt to contact the survey company.
On the positive side, I was blown away by the breadth and depth of the option list and the possibility to at last build your Dream Lightning and see roughly what it might cost. Even if...... they may never build it.
Interesting too was the apparent possibility to come rather close to the Dodge Concept Truck that has been on the board the last couple of weeks at what appears to be a very competitive price.
The lease on my 1999 is up in three weeks and I am probably going to buy the truck as I saw no great improvement (no flame intended) in the 2002 models nor did I get any great feeling about what is on tap for 2003. With less than 20K miles, Moby is long away from being worn out and is good to go for another two years or so.
If what I saw, fleetingly, in this survey is even close to what is being considered in the next 2/3 years, I am pretty excited.

I would imagine it is a random selection process. Hopefully the guys will be able to post the whole survey. It is pretty interesting. Also if you participate, you get a chance to win $500 bucks (not doubt to help on the downpayment for the Gen 3). The survey was done by an outside company and designed to pinpoint what owners consider to be the most important factors in a new Lightning (hp, suspension, price, cab style, wheels etc.)

I got the survey today ('00L). I made sure I did not pick any options that had a supercab. IMO, a supercab would detract from the sport truck look the L has now. I even wrote a nasty note at the end emphasizing that the L remain a regular cab. I for one would be willing to pay as much as $45,000 for a upgraded L (the higher it is, the more exclusive it will become).
