Launch Do's and Don'ts

I am running the truck this friday for first time. I have raced before just not this truck. I want to know what rpm you guys are launching at. I know most of you roll into the throttle and don't mash it at the line to reduce wheelspin. So just let me know what is a good rpm range and burn out or not I would think street tires will be worse if they are to hot. I am gonna run 26psi and see how it goes.

Hey Gambino if you read this what did you launch at last week are trucks our both stock so you would be a good help to me if you are reading this

Thanks
Slick

You don't need to get over 3500 RPM's during a burnout and the hotter the street tires are the better the traction is, at least it was that way for me.

Tim,

I kind of disagree. If you get a radial tire to hot you can get the oily compound of the tire to get slicker... If you have a street tire on do a light burnout with out going through the water just to clean the tires off some. I could do that on my F1's and get 1.8x's 60 foots all the time. I leave the line about 1000rpms....

I lower the rear tire pressure to 20 psi and raise the front to 40 psi. I just do enough of a burnout to clean the tires off and stay away from the water. I leave the line at 1k and slowly go to 1/2 throttle, then I mash it. I'm running consistent 1.9x's with a best of 1.87 60'

what do u mean by : "launce at 1000 rpm" ?

do u mean have it in neutral, rev to 1000 then put it in drive or hold the brake till 1000 then release the brake?

stage...with the truck in gear, left foot on the brake, and right foot on the gas...hold the rpms at 1k...on the last yellow, let go of the brake and moderately give it gas till about 1/2 throttle, then mash it.

That's a good way to shave off a couple of hundred pounds.

The only way my truck will get a good 60ft time is to let the truck idle ,on the last yellow quickly accelerate to full throttle, dont just mash to the floor, but get to wot quickly. anything above an idle and The F1s go up in smoke,no chip, no mods whatsoever ,13:68 @101mph on F1s.Just mounted Nitto drag radials, and did the rear shackle kit, trying to get the truck to hook before I go crazy with the mods.Keep in mind that all dragstrips are not prepared the same way,our local track is not known for a very sticky starting line.Good luck.
