? for Auto Painters

I have a scratch on my rear bumper and wanted to touch it up. The detailer said they could airbrush it then buff it out. My question is, how is this actually done (I want to do it myself)? Do I lightly sand the scratch with xx grit then apply the clear coat (or base coat first?) I also want to touch up some chips in the front bumper cover without having to re-paint the bumper cover. Any help is welcomed. Thanks. Will the edge of the touch up show up as a haze?

Stealing tips that TampaSVT posted, here's what he's found that works best. (Thanks Rich)

1. Prep the area well and use 2000+ grit paper.
2. Even though an air brush is very clean, cover everything up so there's no chance of overspray.
3. Don't tape directly around the area you're spraying. You'll see line where the paint layers. Let the airbrush blend into the surrounding paint.
4. Nice light coats.
5. Buff out with wax cleaner/wax. Most of the touch up paints have a clear coat in them.
6. USE A PAPER MASK. You can still enjoy the fumes without getting paint up your nose...

2000 grit might not be enough. How deep is the scratch??? you might need to use some 800 then put a little filler in it then use some lighter grit. Black is real tough to match but i think metallics are the hardest to match. And on your touch ups just use a real small touch up brush and dab it in the chips.

The scratch is fairly deep, I backed up into a license plate, but the clear coat is still there. My main concern was whether the clear coat would blend into the surrounding area or whether it would show, even after buffing. Thanks.

can someone point me in the direction of a good airbrush? maybe a link? i have never done ne paint work[on a car] so i have a few questions. the touch up paint i got is a little bottle. do you have to dilute it with something? you just start sanding the paint where the scratch is? seems kinda like your making it worse.

thanks
