superchip and boost bypass
hello everyone. i just recently purchased a 2000 with 4000 miles. i first want to say how much i enjoy this forum, all the shared ideas and tips are great. it is obvious there is no end to all the mods i can do. to start out with i am going to install a superchip, new airforce one intake, and a boost bypass. my question is about the boost bypass. is it worth my while to get the bypass kit, what should i notice in improvements, and is there anything i need to be careful about by using it. thanks for any input, Greg

If you unplug it, it leaves a soft code in the computer.

Save $25 for a sticker on something....
I bought a plastic tee,2 short lenths of vaccum hose, plastic reducer coupling & a rubber stopper for about $5 from Home Depot. It takes all of 5 min. to install. You can even wrap a piece of loom around it to be fancy.

Taking into consideration that you post a reply on mostly everything here on F150, I thought it was time you learned something new.
When your computer wants to dump boost, and the solenoid is disconnected, it will not only set a soft code in the computer, but it will also put in a default value for the timing and fuel curve above 3 thousand RPM's, no matter who's chip you run, because the computer thinks its command was not followed.
That is why most all Lightnings equipped with the proper boost bypass kit not only run faster, but are more consistant than higher boosted, unplugged solenoid equipped Lightnings.
The kit fools the computer into thinking it did its job of dumping the boost and it will not change the timing/fuel curve to compensate.
Now do you think it is 25 wasted bucks???
I just thought you might want to learn something new.

I ran a 12.345,12.337,12.342, and a 12.339 over the weekend. That isnt consistent? How many other trucks running my mods are running that consistent? I even have removed a few parts and still ran some good numbers...
Faster?? http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread...&threadid=9927
Check the list again.. True they have me in the wrong place but look where I stand based on my mods... I only have a few and have outrun some HIGHLY modded trucks....
Faster??

I dont like messing with things that work man... Its been that way for over 13K miles and I have had zero problems...
BOOST DUMP happens when there is a problem. Tranny to hot, or Tires spinning, I think a few other things can make it happen as well. I try to avoid doing things that cause KNOWN problems.. Maybe one day I will make my own bypass kit, but I wont pay for one... Until then, mine will be unplugged.....

Just for the he11 of it, I may do this and see if I gain anything. I can't see gaining a tenth or two though. I have had mine unplugged for a while to with so problems.

I wish I could have been there. A few guys I know go to the Texas race every year, and I keep saying that I'm going to go one year but never have. It's more like about 3 hours from where I live. Still close enough.
Maybe I should clarify and make it "5 minutes from the fastest drag strip in Texas", which would be Houston Raceway Park. Where records are broken almost every year at the NHRA Nationals, and it is very easy to run some kick a$$ times.

thanks for all the replies. hey nitro and iculokn, i didn't mean to stir-up such a debate!! lol i am new to doing mods on performance engines, so i dont want to hurt the motor doing a mod that might cause damage. i might try unplugging first, then see how it runs when i use the kit. i'll let you know if i notice any differences. thanks again
