If you use a floor jack under the reciever hitch, it should take about 30 min max.

30 minutes no problem, 40 if you have an adult beverage along with said task

I have a 00 HD and i wanna get the 2" rear drop. I'm guessing you guys used the beltech? I'm a carpenter so i have some knowhow, but i don't usually work on trucks, so i have a few questions.
1. Do i need a torque wrench?
2. should i get an alignment after the drop? or is that only if i do the front too?
3. Can somepone post some instillation pics, exactly what parts get replaced.
4. where's the cheapest place to buy the drop?
I really appreciate any help.
BTW, i love your trucks, i wanna get a white L someday

Josh,

first off, mighty nice image of the HD's

Secondly, the shackles are very easy to do provided you have a floor jack and a decent set of sockets and open end/close end wrenches (forget the size) and a floor jack.

simply lift the rear of the vehicle at the hitch with the floor jack just enought to relax a majority of the tension on the springs.

loosen the upper and lower shackle bolts on the hanger.

Remove the lower bolts by pulling and turning simultaneously (they may be a bit difficult depending on the spring tension)

Remove the nuts on the upper bolts

SLOWLY lower the truck just enough so the upper part of the shackle is just above the frame rail. you can push upwards on the spring as the bolt has to be removed between the frame rail and the bed.

Remove the OEM shackle and install the drop shackle onto the leaf spring. snug up the upper shackle bolt.

Slowly raise the truck with the floor jack so the lower attachment point lines up with the frame hanger. you may need to 'assist' the shackle into the hanger.

Reinstall the lower shackle bolt. torque both upper and lower bolts goodentight (no need for a torque wrench).

repeat same steps on opposite side.

lower vehicle, wash hands/remove gloves, open festive beverage

For a good price and great service on the Beltech units, contact Mark at Lightningforce Performance.

No need for an alignment for this mod. Mandatory for any front suspension modificaton that may alter caster, camber, or toe (ie: springs, A arms, etc)

Hope this helps.

Bob

Speedin Bob, thanks for the compliment on the pic, hopefully i can get one soon with the 01 HD in the middle. I still have a few questions though.
1. i don't have a reciever hitch, so where should i jack it up at?
2. i'm guessing that i shouldn't remove the rim to do this since i have to lower and raise the truck a few times?

Thanks for your help, hopefully i'll be doing it after i get the driveway paved once the weather breaks.

Harley#356,
you could probably use a block of wood on the floor jack and then jack up the bumper, no scratches this way...my .02....
nice trucks by the way.........JR
