Ford Lightning AND Ram SRT10, making room.

alright, im not going ask whether the SRT10 can beat the Lightning or... if FORD will come back with something bigger, badder, faster...

the question is, would you get one?

considering the major concept attributes are not disposed of, mainly performance numbers and whatnot (500/500, 0-60 5sec, 1/4 - <13), and that a starting price of 35k was in fact, the correct figure... would you add the Dodge Ram SRT10 to your stable?

dump all the lame "ford is the best" comments, and "dodge means to avoid"

it was going to happen sooner or later, someone was going to challenge the sport pickup truck messiah Ford Lightning, and you must give up to Dodge, they thought (dreamed?) up something worthy to compete.

if ford has no performance upgrades planned for next years model, dodge will run with the label of fastest production truck on the planet.

[edit]
so, again, the $35,000 dollar question; Would you, or are you getting a Dodge Ram SRT10?

Wink

well since Ford monitors this list, of course i would buy a naturally aspirated 500hp dodge for 35K over a 380hp blown ford . my 300hp dodge V-10 now has 700hp, so if i mod the new V-10, and do some fancy ciphering, it would have, like, more than 500hp, or something

ps: something funny, i posted in the GD section, because thats where it really belongs, but none of you will see it there:

It's a definite.... maybe

I bought the Lightning because it price was right and what I really wanted to buy was a Viper... Don't know how many of y'all have been in one... but after having my truck for the past 8 months... there is no way I'd want to crawl in and out of a Viper (unless it's an RT or the new convertible)...

Now... my last three cars have been Fords (2 SHO's and one really fast Mustang LX convertible)... guess I kinda like Fords... Now with the GT40 coming out (curved doors for ease of entry/exit... as if that really means anything)... I really like that better than the Viper....

Oh yeah... this is about their truck... It's a toss up... sure the V10, six speed, big wheels and Viper brakes would be cool... but the F150... IMO... is just a better looking truck...

Hmmmm.... so what does the 2003 F150 look like??? And is SVT changing the Lightning???

I guess if the price were right for the Dodge... I'd buy it.

Well i went to the NY Auto Show last thursday and saw the SRT-10 in person. I dont like the looks of the truck only liked the paint job. But one thing i noticed was that where ever there was info posted with the specs for the truck there in big letters was Dodge SRT-10 SHOW TRUCK. Also a little birdie told me that they saw a pre-production version of the truck and that it had 18 inch rims on it. Take it for what you want but thats what i heard. So humm if they cut the rims by that much wonder how much they will cut the engine by? I just find it hard to believe they will make this truck for 35k. Come on if you just bought a Viper for what 60-80k and saw that they were coming out with a pick-up truck that had your engine and complete drive train that was half the price wouldnt you be PI$$ED? I just dont see why dodge would do that to their flagship vehicale the Viper. As for the truck i dont like the looks and trying to get that truck to hook with the manual good luck. Its hard enough getting our trucks with 380hp and auto to hook. So like i said when i see it roll up next to me at the light then i will believe it. I hope they make it so that Ford has to come out and make a Badder AZZ Gen 3 Lightning. Just look how much Ford beefed up the Cobra i can only imagine what they will do to the Gen 3 if they make it.

SHOW TRUCK

I also subscribe to VIPER Magazine... this last issue didn't state the the truck was definitely a production vehicle as it did for the Neon and the Viper...

Poker hand anyone??

BadAzz...I think you are right about the price. The two trucks stock are close to the same price. So if a "L" motor is about 6K and a V10 is almost 12K how in the hell do you sell the truck for 3K more than the "L"? You don't. My brolaw is a Mopar man and he thinks it's a 45K truck, but then again what do these guys know anyway. Also they will never hook up on the street and are still a butt ugly truck. http://www.viperconnection.com/parts/crate.html

I still think 45k is to low a price for that truck and if they do sell it at the price i would be PI$$ED off if i was a viper owenr that paid at least 20k more for a Viper and a pick-up gets my engine and drivetrain. You get a lightning at sticker and throw the 10k more the dodge will be if it comes out at 45k into mods you will have a truck that will be in the 11's and look a way of alot better then that dodge.

I think we could beat one of these POS if only for the fact that the "L" could get traction first. And you know how tough it is for us to get it. It sure would be a smoke fest."L" wins!

SRT-10 owners will have a prob.

If/When the SRT-10 comes out, they will be tring like hell to be all over our L's.
What Im getting at is, Look how many L's are at the track every weekend. A whole crap load, and every LS1, Mustang and Lightning website talks about them.
Point here is that the SRT-10 boys will be doing the same to try and knock off the Lightning.
With 500 hp and 500 ft.lbs. in a stick. Lots of room for driver error, I dont think the truck can handel the track abuse the L takes every week.
Im not knocking Dodge, but you have more moving parts and alot more driver error. And for only 35k, ther will be alot of SRT-10's out there trying to run the L.
How many Vipers do you see dragging every week?
Granted they cost 70k and not 32k so less can afford them, but who knows if they can handle drag after drag w/ slicks and common everyday drivers.
Thats what the SRT-10 has to worry about, lots of trucks sold to lots of dumb a$$es.

Sorry for the long post

I think the "Show Truck" that everyone is seeing and hearing about is just to get everyone's attention. I seriously doubt that that truck will make it into production especially for $35K.

YES!

The truck is stunning to look at, I have seen it in person
at the auto show and it attracted alot of attention, however
I do not beleive the price will be anything close to 35 grand
more like at least 50- and thats alot of cabbage for a pickup truck
so for 35 its mine but anymore than that no way.

If The SRT 10 were built with the full 500 HP, aluminum V10 & the 6 speed from the Viper as rumoured, for less than 40K, I'd buy one. Not as a replacement for my L however, rather an interesting stablemate.

What the heck do you do for a living if you don't mind me asking? Or did you just win a lottery? That is one impressive stable you've got there!WOW!

I too heard of a $45k price.... that would put it out of reach for us with much smaller stables.
