im not gonna lie and say i never street race, hell i raced my buddy in his 94 mark viii last night but we were way way out in the boonies,i dont see a real problem with a couple of guys lining up at a light at midnight when theres noone around, but all the orginized racing where crowds gather and such is going to make it hard for everyone, just my 2 cents.

there's going to be alot of BS with the clause involving the spectators even watching "preparation for an illegal race" The penalty was out rageous. 30days and $500 fine for just being near it before the races have even begun. Out here in AZ it is crappy. A cop can arrest you for cherping your tires off the line at a light. Just yesterday I was at a light and wanted to check how my stock tires were holding up since i've done the majority of my modification.... I haven't used the F1s under hard acceleration since my headers. I broke the things loose like no other. All I did was stage to 1200rpm and let off hte break and that was enough to tell me what i needed to know. Now if a cop had seen my baby's tires going AAAHHHHH, he could have slaped me with a felony and revoked my licence for life. Now after the staging I didn't get going more than about 20mph.... I know that it's going to happen to someone and it's going to be the police trying to make an example so that the lawless youth of america can see that this can happen to you.

Yes the laws are going to do what they are inteded to an extent and there will always be racers. I've been invited to the drags out here, almost every weekend by some little ricer at a stop light, for nearly a year now. But I have never gone souly because of the penalties.

The laws in AZ are fine as is. Increasing the penalties to the extent that they propose for the spectators is Cr@p. If a race is discovered the cops should break it up. Give a minor fine ($75, just enough to **** you off but not enough to really do alot) to the spectators sitting along the track, because that it just retarded. And do as they have been for the racers.

In the midwest you're supposed to lose your license for racing. I guess the little things fall into the discretion of the guy with the badge. I'll never advocate street racing, but I do find it pretty stupid that they believe it's an epidemic that needs to be stopped. Real street racing is so incredibly rare that I can't believe it's even an issue. I can't even remember the last time I've actually seen people race on the streets around here. What I DO see about every single time I get in my car is tailgating, aggressive lane changes, failing to use turn signals, turning right from the left lane, passing on the right - FROM POLICE OFFICERS (not to mention everybody else). Don't even get me started on soccer moms driving 7000lb SUVs while eating and talking on the phone!

[must ...watch... blood... pressure...]

I used to drive a little 2400lb convertible. One year of dealing with all the Chicagoland sociopaths in SUVs convinced me to get more mass and height. Driving is a lost art, so I guess they are attacking the laws which almost nobody is guilty of breaking.

[must ... watch ... blood ... pressure ...]

Tyranny of the masses. Democracy in action.

Well, a 500.00 ticket in my 91 LX is what got me to buy the 93 L. I have the 01 now and I won't street race as long as they have tracks. Anybody else can do as they please. I'm not your daddy and I don't offer any opinions. For me, I can't see taking the chance of losing the ability to drive such a nice vehicle, dish out tons of money or worse kill myself or someone else, or worse yet - kill someone else and live to deal with it for a few seconds of fun. Maybe I'm getting old (I know I am) but i don't even drive that fast tho' occasionally I like to punch it. I just weigh out the consequences. There's a lot of storm troopers where I live.

And Snoopy-I'm with you on that sh't.

passing on the right is illegal? Damn in AZ that's the fastest lane usually bc all of the "old" people in their lincoln town cars are doing 25 under the speed limit in the left lane. They cause the accedents around here bc everyone is trying to dodge them I agree with snoopy as well

In LA County (7 Mil+ bodies) it's now an automatic $500 if you get caught spectating within 150 feet of a street race. Hate to walk by one of those by accident.

But, this brings some opportunities for $$$ to mind:

Closed circuit TV of the races...

Selling Really good binoculars to the spectators...

But seriously, any racing on the street where your doing over 60 is only asking for trouble. A little stop light Grand Prix if no one (particularly kids) are around is fine. But this 100MPH+ stuff on the streets is idiotic

The guy that killed his mother and another relative in her vehicle also, is being criminally charged as far as I know. Also, there is legislature pending that will make street racing AND spectating a street race a FELONY traffic offense here in FL. I have just heard bits and peices of it at work. If I get any legal briefs on it, I will pass the info on.

Thats is definetly a strict penalty for those watching. But you have to look where there (police) are coming from. If you discourage onlookers then your eliminating some of the peir pressure, and everyone knows thats one of the biggest downfalls of teenagers, no matter how good they are.

Snoopy - he** yeah, thats another thing they need to get rid off. My vote is to raise the speed limits a little more. Some people just want to go fast thats all, and sometimes in order to do that they need drive agressively.

I do like how they tried to blame part of it on F&F, wasn't that movie inspired by what was already going on????

And my favorite part:
"It's almost like they say, life imitating art," said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Derrick Charleston, who organized the recent Miami-Dade sting. "It's an ongoing problem, an age-old problem, and it's not going to go away, even with someone having a legal strip. There's a legal raceway up in West Palm Beach, and yet people had come down from West Palm to race illegally in Miami. They can't hang out like they want to when it's legal."
Maybe thats what they should also work on. Being in Jersey I'm kindal lucky, we have E-town, Atco, and Cecil all within a reason able drive, plus many Auto-x events. And I only know of 1 illegal street gathering. Many other stats don't have that much available and if they do it stinks.
