PSP vs JDM

I know that everyone says that it doesn't matter which tuner you go with because they are all good. I want to get a dual prgram chip and don't know whether to go with PSP or JDM. I haven't seen much about JDM on here lately so I was kinda leaning towards PSP. Let me what you guys think I should do. By the way, do JLP make a dual prgram chip?

All of the vendors deal in top-o-the-line products. You could flip a coin and be happy.

Psp has a 4 way that allows for lots of versitility

anti theft: will not start
valet: like 2ed only and 30MPH or something
street mild: to stay out of trouble say torque reduction, 4200 shift, 85 mph max, 91 octane
wild street: 93 octane hard shifts
race: 100 octane

You get the idea. That is six programs. With JDM you have any 2. With Sal you can choose 4. Both guys have plenty of tallent to give you what you want.

Hope this helps

Andy

tuner wars!

first of all your not going to get the answers your looking for. its all a matter of personal preference. second, the reason you see more PSP here than JDM is because jim(JDM) usually posts over at svtperformance and sal(PSP) usually posts here. probly because sal is a supporting vendor here and jim is not.

Like everyone is saying, they are all good, some think others are better and that is their personal choice. So it is all up to your personal choice and it sounds like you have started to narrow it down, you won't go wrong with any of the top three tuners. So make up your choice like we all have and if you are not happy with that choice you will still have two more to make.

I have seen few if any blown motors by Jim or Sal.

Be carful if you have a 01 or 02 They have an issue if the air flow meter goes to 5 Volts. The early programs handle this differently and do not seem to have the issue. The result is detonation on the top end and a rod is the first part to make it aparent the you hit the problem.

Call Sal, Call Jim, then decide and rest easy knowing you made the right choice.

My opinion is kinda biased.

Everything i heard was "go with JDM, best quality by far and best customer service." I must say, the customer service has been HORRIBLE!!! Don't ask, too much to write. But as far as quality of the product/programs, many have told me JDM. Who knows...

Do it right

and get one of each. As you change mods(particularly, higher boost pulleys), you will need a reburn, so you will have the second one to use while one is being upgraded. Believe me, you will not want to drive without a chip once you have used one.

First and foremost to remember: The program you get from any of the tuners is great. The tuners program their chips on an average for all the settings that should keep you from blowing the motor. Now the truth is none of our mototrs react exactly the same to the chip. If you notice a lot people send them back because of pinging. Can be many causes external for pinging and one od those is gas in your area. Unknown to the tuners is why some trucks ping and others do not in the same area with the same chipwith the same gas. Our engines were not each dynoed and numbers gathered to program the PCM so they all would be the same. Just look at the times some people turn when stock. Can be as much as 1 sec.

After you read all this above the only way you can really know if the brand chip in your truck is making the right horsepower and torque across the total rpm range is get the tuner and your truck at the dyno and let him tune to the specific needs of your engine.

Even though we have PCMs on these trucks each truck breathes a little different....... If they were all the same we would not need "tuning": one chip with one program for each mod or stock would do the same for everyones truck and then it would be all driver to make the difference at a given track for ET and MPH.

All of the tuners are good.... in my truck the standard race program from Sal may make it run the best. However, in your truck or someone elses JDM's or Johnny Lightning's may be the kick butt program.

Just get one and work with the tuner to make it suit your needs.

Posted over my 2 cents on this one, but I think all the tuners are great and none of our truck engines are pure clones.

Ron

I would go with PSP, he's been at the front since the Gen 2's came out. What Lightninrod said is VERY true, my chip is out for a reburn and let's just say I miss it very much
