Question Anyone ever have this problem...

When you take off in my 2001 L, at about 2400-3200 rpm, it sounds like the truck has shifted gears for a splt second(but it does not...just lowers the rpm's for a split second), then it is back on its way to full throttle again. It does it in almost every gear. BTW, there are no modifications besides a 3/4 drop. It has done this since day one(1300 when I bought it). Anybody experience this? I will be taking it in next week and take the tech for a drive...lol. I have heard too many dealership horro stories. Thanks in advance

I think they all do it too. I've noticed it even more when you take off with some throttle then let off just a hair, then the boost seems to drop more than it should and you get a sort of rubberbanding affect.

The drop in rpm is due to torque converter lockup.

i thought the torque converter locked up at higher rpm...around 4500. This is real low in rpm

it sounds like that but there is a more of a distinction...and i only heard it in 3rd, mine happens in everygear depending on how much throttle...It may be the same but hard to tell. anyways, thanks for all the help

Kevin-
Check out the Houston Lightning board (www.haloclub.com). If you're looking for a dealership, ask over there...Tommie Vaughn in Houston is the place. I wouldn't take my truck ANYWHERE else around here.

Thumbs up

Yeah, that was me. I'm guessing you're the L that was over behind the Tap (or in that area) sometimes. I've been to Tomball Ford a few times in the past...good folks who always treated me right.
