How do I do this? Do I need to a full tank of gas? I need to test the MPG for a few of my chips. Thanks in advance.

Fill it up, remember how full you forced it (how many times you make it click off) You dont need to keep up with how much filled it up this time.

Reset your trip odo. Drive a while, over 100 miles for a good average.

Fill it up again, trying to get it the same fullness as the first time. This time, record exactly how many gallons and tenths it took to fill it back up.

Divide the miles you drove from your trip odo. by the gallons and tenths it took to top it back off.

1) fill tank

2) reset odometer

3) drive truck

4) fill up the truck

5) type into calculator (miles on the odometer) divided by (gallons of gas used to fill up the tank) that’s why they call it Miles/Gallon

I think Jeffs on the ball. I alway's try to fill mine all the way up, till no more goes in. That way they are constant. Wind and speed also make a difference, so driving styles should remain constant. Just my thoughts

Follow the directions above also,

Go to the same station, use the same pump.
For the same 'fullness' use the autolock on the pump handle, when it clicks off do not 'top it off'. (You may top it off at different amounts unless you just make sure your shoes get wet everytime) At the same time don't let the truck get jostled around by you or someone inside the truck.

Oh yeah, and pay for the gas before you leave.

What raol said, Would temperature effect the expanding of the gas, thus causing the auto click to click at a defferent level than before?

I think the differece in getting an extra few tenths of a gallon in there or not aren't significant. If you were doing it for a full tank (about 300 miles) it wouldnt mess up your calculations. Just dont pump it all the way up the filler neck one time, and stop on the first click the next time.

That's true Phillip, I know it does with me.
I just lift my leg and let it fly.

do exactlt what awhittle said. he is 100% correct!! you dont need to go to the same pump or remember how many times it "clicked" off. it is the easiest and the truest!!
