Annoying Lag in 2nd gear...

What is that annoying lag that these trucks have when cruising in 2nd gear at around 2000-3000 rpm. I know of another L that has this problem...is it just us? Or is it everybody?

Disconnect the boost dump located on the drivers side of the blower that may help a tad
Notice the plug that is disconnected......it has 2 wires going into it.

I get a bad lag, chip or no chip, at about 3,800 to 4,000 rpm when i'm getting on it. Not sure if this is the same thing? I don't have a consensus on what it is yet, but i KNOW it's costing me a couple tenths in the quarter mile!

Soap:

I'm usually with ya, but on this one--I don't think it has anything to do with 'boost dump'. Yes, he should disconnect his if he hasn't already, but I don't think that that is his L's problem.

Having said this, I d/k what the problem is .....unless the PCM is backing out some timing???

it's the point at which the torque convertor is reaching 100% duty cycle (lockup).

Yup guys.........it's not the boost dump switch.........that has nothing to do with it...........I think the first post described it perfectly.............It's around that 2500 - 3000 rpm range that it does it ALL THE TIME...............WOT, half-throttle, 3/4 throttle, easy driving..........wHATEVER.........it always does it.....I thought the chip gets rid of it, but nope.....

Do the higher modded guys see the same thing????

ok, one more time.... It's the torque convertor hitting 100% lockup. A chip can tune it out, although most programs don't get rid of it, but if you asked, it can be removed.

Any reason NOT to get rid of the torque convertor issue with the chip? I would assume ALL Tuners would get rid of this as it lags the power.?.?

It keeps tranny temps down and the point at which it locks is near maximum power, so it makes it more efficient. I think it may help ET instead of hurt it. My 01L had only a JDM chip (which kept the lockup) and MT ET streets and had no problem running 12.80's in 90deg. July weather.

At least a tenth of a second!

Ya, the '00 Lightning I owned had this problem, until I installed Sals Flip Chip. I've not chipped my '01 Lightning to date, due to warrantee issues. However, I really believe a PSP chip installed in a '01 or '02 would eliminate this lull

As far as helping the ET, there's not a chance! It is a noticeable lag, maybe 30hp for what feels like a half a second. This could only hurt the times, which, as stated, is why some tuners have been taking this issue out when they program a chip. I just wish mine was taken out. I wonder if everyone has this problem? I'm assuming yes.

what you dont realize is that while you hear the engine bog down, it's like letting a slipping clutch the rest of the way out. It has nothing to do with the engine, so therefore its not a 30 or so reduction in HP. For that matter, what does it feel like when the truck goes into 3rd gear? Do you think that that's a reduction in power?

All moving parts ( Stand Still )

(A little Ozzy song)

Now jefflaws....Calm down bud. It's a fact that this lull Watching the tach stop for a moment in time! Does not hurt the qtr mile ET/Mph all that much (Oh Yeah) , but this bull S#!t anomolous shift pattern does chap the hide of most GEN2 Lightning owners. And by the way some chips do send this SLIP UP a steppin
