01 Lightning vs 02 WS6...one more time
Hey guys,
A friend of mine recently purchased a new 2002 Trans-Am WS6, six-speed, hurst shifter...beautiful car.
We are going to the strip on 4/19 and are planning on running eachother. His first time to ever run at the strip, I've been there about a dozen times. I have a chip/filter, he has a lid and an exhuast cutout.
We raced from a 40 roll before his mods...dead even until 70 when we let off.
My question: Who will take who? My best time is a 13.55@103.9.
He is asking this same question over at LS1.com if anyone wants to read the responses. (username: StoneWS6)

It'll be a very close run, IMO. The WS6 runs a 13.5sec 1/4 mile @ roughly 108mph. 0-60 in 5secs flat (stock). It'll would all pretty much come down to his AND your launching skills. It should be tight. Bet him a good size wad of clams, and then secretly install a NOS kit for chits and giggles.
Goodluck out there soldier.

captainoblivious is right. The 6 speed cars are hard to launch.
To launch the bird' quickly, he'll have to slip the clutch. If he blows it, he will get mucho wheelspin.
My suggestion is this. Get him real psyched up, so that he will want to beat you real bad. Do your burnout, look over at him, and rev the truck a few times. Get him real excited. If he gets excited, and tries to launch to hard, he will probably spin heavily in both 1st and 2nd gear. If he does this, he's toast.
Have fun!

Yea, it seems that the first 60 feet will win the race.. now don't you go spinning your tires either!! Roll out and then floor it. Grab your lead and you might hold it at the top end. If he's out of the gate first, bad r.t on your part and the race is lost.

A couple weeks ago, on my first trip EVER to the track, I ended up lining up against a WS6. I took him off the launch, and had a better 60' time....My 2.16 seconds of excitement ended quite rapidly......all of a sudden this freeking guy passed me like I was going in reverse!! He pulled off a 12.7x @ 118+mph with a 2.3x 60' time!!
He said he didn't have the bottle, but didn't wanna open up the hood either
He was a little ****y so I didn't wanna stick around and talk too long afterwards. All I know, and I know this has been discussed at GREAT LENGTH, these F-bods are fast as shyt, and with a few bolt-ons and engine work, are ungodly fast!! If this guy would of had slicks or at least DR's, holy 11's!!!
All I can say is, stock for stock........nice race, all up to the driver and launch skills.....There are wide variations in et's for 1/4 mile passes on F-bods, but so do we, so, good luck nonetheless
