Powdercoated Chrome in Lightning Lights?

I'm planning on upgrading to the 2k1 lightning lights, but my truck is nothing but black. I want to get the new lightning lights, but I was wondering if I could take them apart, and get the chrome power coated to a black. Chrome powdercoats right? It'd be shiny enough for tails right, because aftermarkets come in chrome or carbon fiber right? Nothing like customizing some custom tails right? Hmm, I doubt anyone has had any experience with this. Opinions?

That would be unique, alright. Maybe someone could Photoshop some black to get an idea what they would look like.

I don't know if you can get the lense off without breaking it.

Good luck on a unique idea,

Tim

That would definately be a first. If you pull it off, post the pics. I'm getting a black '02 and that would be sweet.

you should go to the junkyard or midnight auto and find some regular f150 tails and try to take them apart so u dont have to risk hurting your good ones.

i have regular f150 lights, which is why I'm upgrading. I know that they could be pryed off and glued back on. glue is how they are on in the first place. and i believe the back of my front signals are metal. Hopefully the backs of those lightning ones are too.

In most cases you cannot powder coat plastic. There are some exceptions as you could use a high heat thermo-plastic and then you need to give it a metallic coating to make it conductive to attract the powder paint to the surface. Most lamp parabolas are plastic and the process that gives them a bright finish is vacuum metalized not chrome. If in fact you have a metal Parabola or reflector you could have it "Black Chromed" not as durable as chrome but a very nice look and would hold up well with a lens to protect the surface.

Backcans, parabolas, reflectors, etc. on Ford lamps are in fact plastic. In most cases they are not glued but either sonic or hot plate welded. Plastic can be plated by first laying down a base of either electroless copper or nickel.
