Question hard braking question

Testing, I can't seem to get my post up

Ok, that's better.
I just got my L (after 3 years of dreamin) and I'm noticing a short pulse, or give in the brake pedal under hard braking conditions. Now, I know none of you do any hard braking Just in case someone does- this concerns me a little. Is it the ABS clicking in? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I don't sense any give in braking ability, but it feels weird. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot!

Mine brand new L does that too. Even when no ABS seems to be needed. My 99 cobra did it ALL the time. Especially if I applied the brakes in a situation when the wheels were turned, of if I applied xtra pressure to the brakes, i.e. if someone slowed down hastily in front of me. Those pulses seemed normal. When I had the Cobra I was a member of Corral.net and asked the guys there the same question, they said it was normal, just very touchy ABS systems nowadays. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, it wont go away with time either, my cobra had 46000K last week when I traded it for my L, & it still pulsed during normal braking.

Mine does this as well. It does it mainly at very slow speed when the tires are turned. It is just the very sensative ABS from what I can tell. Hope this helps in letting you know you aren't the only one experiencing this. Kinda weird feeling ain't it? Can be un-nerving if you aren't expecting it.

It's either the ABS or possibly warped rotors. Under HARD braking, the abs will kick in and you'll feel the pulsation thru the pedal. You may even hear it. You could confirm either by hard braking several times on an open road without any other cars around (not a wussy stop either, more like 105 to 25, full pedal the whole time). After one or two hard braking efforts, you'll either fade the pads (depending on the pad) or boil the fluid (if you have pads that don't fade). If this happens, ABS won't be able to kick in, because you won't be able to lock the brakes. But, if you still feel the pulsation and you aren't able to stop quickly anymore, you may have warped rotors.

BTW, if you do this and boil the fluid, don't forget to bleed your brakes.

Also, I wouldn't suggest doing this if there are any possible problems with your tires or brakes. It could result in a catastrophic failure that you don't want to be a part of.

Yeah, mine do that too, and my rotors are 100% true, no warpage. I get it just a little if I tip into the brakes very hard initially, almost every time. It's only like a little, I dunno, "mini-pulse" or something, I guess. First time I felt it it weirded me some, but now I just go with the flow...

Hey Spike,

No flame, but won't doing what you described possibly warp the rotors if they are not already?

If the lugnuts are all torqued to spec, they won't warp. Of course, if you stop right after doing this and hold the brake peddle down while they cool, the chance of warping goes up.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one with this issue as well. I had suspected it was the ABS kicking in, but it seems to happen with very little pressure...

At least I'm not the only one...

Mine does it too. Not under "normal" braking, but "moderate" braking. BTW, what should the lugnuts be torqued to?

Is 140 ft/lbs about what an air wrench gets? Or
should they all be hand done?

Wanna know BEFORE I hit the strip ....

They should be torqued to spec before it leaves the driveway.
