possibly racing in nmra in reynolds, need help on how it all works!!!
i have never raced in a nmra event i have only been to the one in bradenton to watch but i didnt get to watch very much. i wanna run my lightning in the lightning class and i need pointers. first of all isnt it a .500 bracket tree??? i have had some practice on heads up racing at tracks lately but minimal bracket racing experiences. ok so say i qualified a 13.00 does that automatically set my dial in to a 12.90 or what?? i just need a little insight on the way dial ins are handled so i can come up with a strategy for the big race sunday. where i bracket raced we dialed in a number but i could change it from round to round i cant here right. is there a rule saying i could lay off in qualifying so i could have a higher dial in time and then hit the brakes on the other end??? any help would be appreciated thanks.
Rusty, the NMRA Lightning class is an Open Comp style bracket class. What that means is that you will make 3 qualifying passes. They will take the quickest of the three, and subtract 1/10 from that. That is your dial for the weekend. You cannot change your dial. The 1/10 breakout is allowed because cars get quicker as the day cools, etc.
So for example, let's say you run 13.10, 13.05 and 13.02 for your three qualifying runs. Your fastest was a 13.02, so your dial now becomes a 12.92. You can now run as fast as 12.92 without breaking out. No dial goes on the truck, they display it on the board before each elimination race. MAKE SURE THEY DISPLAY THE CORRECT DIAL FOR YOU BEFORE YOU STAGE. If your dial is wrong and you stage and race, you cannot protest.
Hope this helps.

thanks alot guys. im at a huge disadvantage on a pro tree. i guess i need to deep stage. i thought i saw a sprtsman tree come down in bradenton or do they just do that in qualifying??? i hope they do the tree in qualifying just like they do on race day. thanks for the help now if i dont have to work ill be there to race this weekend.
chances are either you caught the bracket classes running (.500 sportsman tree) or they screwed up like they did last year at the columbus race, good luck none the less, unfortunatly i cant make the reynolds race but i do plan on running the last 5 races so i hope to see you at any of these races
