Supercharger oil fill level?
Supercharger oil fill level?
Hello All!
When checking the oil level by pulling the plug on the snout of the SC, when just about fully un-screwing it, oil blew out and continued to flow out until I quickly screwed the plug back in. I was expecting to find a level much like checking the float level of a Holley Carb. To me...This Eaton is overfilled, unless there is a different plug to fill the reservoir.
Anyone experienced with this?
Thank you,
Spike

I should have mentioned this.
Lightning Boy,
The engine had not been started in 12 hours when checking the oil level this morning. I'm a bit concerned to run this engine now, even though I know there is plenty of oil above the plug still. Heck, it may have been overfilled from the get go

To the best of my memory, the oil level should be just to the botom of that hole. Did it literally spray? Or did it just leak out?
I would try containg Sal and see what he says. I remember him saying some information about the oil level back when these trucks just came out.

Was the truck sitting level...if the front of the truck is uphill then oil from the front of the snout will flood the resevoir...anyways not to worry cause you have plenty of oil in the Eaton...if oil was running out of it then its Full
Yessir it did spray out!
And this oil tastes awful...J/K
It did splash onto the belt and top hose!
The truck is sitting level as it can, in me car port. Maybe Sal will read this post and reply
Thank you all!

When JDM replaced my blower snout after a pulley replacement, they squirted oil into the fill hole until it flowed out. That is full. This covers about 2/3 of the gears.

Thank you all for the reply's
I just got back from a 200 mile round trip and all seems just fine
As long as there are no leaks on the output shaft, I suppose being overfilled does not pose as a problem
You guys are the best!

Anybody ever changed their fluid in the blower? My question is, how do you get the old fluid out? I figured since Im spinning the blower faster I needed to get a better grade lube. What weight oil is that any way?
I remember a post about this a while back...
...that said to change the S/C oil at 30K, but when I flipped through the Owners Manual, Scheduled Maintenance book, and SVT supplement, I couldn't find anything about doing any sort of maintenance to the S/C.
The reason I went looking is because I get this intermittent squeeking/squeeling type noise from the general area of my S/C about 1 out of every 5 or 10 times I start it up (I think it may be the alternator, but I'm not sure).
I actually made an appointment to take it to the dealer after the first time I heard it (when my "noise ulcer" started acting up as someone else said), but as always, the day of the appointment there was no sign of the noise - so I canceled the appointment. The whole reason I read through the books was to make sure that the dealer couldn't blame me if it was in fact a problem with the S/C...like they tried (unsuccessfully) to do with the front wheel bearing issue I had to deal with a few weeks ago.
Anyone have any info??? (and where you got it from)
Thanks. Later...

You get the old stuff out with a turkey baister and a small hose, or a syringe and a hose. There really isn't all that much in there.
That oil isn't standard oil. It's 'special' supercharger oil. I don't know how ford sells it, but I have several bottles of it from my GTP days.
The bottom of the threads of the hole is 'full'
