auto window open quit working..

you know how the drivers side window has the "auto open" function? mine quit working the other day, but it will still roll up and down with the switch.

is there a seperate fuse for this function? or maybe a relay?
i'm going to test all the fuses tomorrow, but i'm not sure how to test relays.

anyone had this happen?

thanks in advance!

Hey Clonetek, yes there is a One Touch Down Relay...its in the Central Junction Box under the drivers side dash. More than likely that is the malfunction....but that dang thing like many of the other "little functions" on our L's are controled by the GEM module also...lets hope for the best! LOL The OTD relay is the second one from the bottom...there are 3 medium sized relays and 2 small ones on the left side of the panel...so that makes the OTD relay the middle medium sized one. -Mark.

wish you lived closer...LOL....i have a tool box drawer full of them and other various fuses and relays....could have given you one. One of the few perks of being a mechanic in a dealership...i miss that job now It should not be a dealer only item though.

If the relays check out okay, it may be the switch. I took one apart and noticed that the down side of the rocker has a little prong that engages the auto down function. If this is broken, it will not push the rocker switch down far enough to engage it.

well, not a very productive day..

went to autozone & bought a generic relay.. bad idea!
swapped it with the "bad" one and nothing happened.
nothing at all.. windows quit and everything. put the original relay in, and still didn't work. !$%@
popped a fuse.
returned the new relay & got money back.

blew a $3.00 fuse under the hood.. went to 3 parts places before i found one.

now i'm back to square one...

there are 2 relays in the fuse box that are the same.. switched them out with each other, and the same thing happens..
the relay(s) still click when activated, so i think the window switch is still good (took it out and checked it too). seems to be a faulty relay..

hmm.. dad is going out of town monday.. hmmm he drives a F150 too.. hmmmmmmmmmm.
pull in the driveway, and what do i see? a F150 company truck! heh heh heh.. it's one touch down function is gonna mysterously quit working tomorrow night.. stay tuned.

i'm 3\/1|_

the oddest thing happened today.. my one touch down function is working fine, but the company truck one touch function seems to have quit.. odd..

first swapped relays, but it still didnt work, then swapped the window buttons, and it worked!
also replaced the fuse i blew yesterday with one off the other truck. (i bought a new fuse, but they were different brands.. :P )

Chikenears, did you ever figure out if it was your tailpipes hitting the traction bars?
