Wink Road Trip

I think I remember hearing somewhere on the board how most L.'s burn a little oil between oil changes. I have Mobil One 10wx30 in my 01 L. with 6000 miles on the truck. I switched to the syn oil at 1000 miles as I did with my 94 L. some years back. I never noticed any oil loss with miles, so I decided to change it and go to Chicago (from N.J. to visit friends and keep a real close watch on the consumption. With just over 5 1/2 quarts of Mobil One 10wx30 I left for Chicago. The reason for the 5 1/2 quarst is because of my call to SVT a few months ago asking what to do with the ouil in the intake. He said to run it a little short of 6 quarts. So far, no oil in there. I left New Jersey at 1:00 pm Wed. and got to Chicago at 5:00 am Thursday. By the way, anyone want to claim the 01 Black L. I saw going East on 76 Wed, afternood just outside Gettysburg?? I picked up my brother that evening and went to St. Louis to pick up some rugs at his old house and went back to Chicago. Besides being a little tired, when I checked the oil, it was right where I started. Now I didn't baby it at all. As far as mods, all I have is the cone K&N filter right now. Truck runs like a top. I sold my 94 last year with just 65,000 miles on it. I ran Mobil 10wx30 since after the first 1,000 miles. It was moded to the hilt and never lost any oil. I made three trips to Florida in the o1 and it still hold's it's oil. Just thought you'd like to know.

Thumbs up

Hey Gary thats great!

I think the oil loss really depends on the driver!

I have friends that have to add oil to their Vics after some road trips, no matter where I go however I never had the need to add some oil to my car... its great!

Good luck with it!

PS. I run Pennzoil 10W 40.... we use it on all our Vics...

HHHAAAHHH!!! My dad's C-5 was in the shop at leasts 10 times the first year. It was leaking from here, then it was leaking from there and then GM wanted to put a new motor in it and he said no, because it would decrease the resale value, fix the motor that's in it. They finally did after the 10th time. No prob's for the next 10K miles, then he got sick of getting beat by me and got an '02 ZO6

Should run 5 1/2 qts Mobil 1?

When I checked my oil a week after oil change, I found it about 1/2 qt. low. thought dealer didn't fill it, used some, or leaked, eventhough no signs of that in garage. Could it be my SVT dealer was smart enough not to use 6 qts to eliminate oil in intake? Is this accurate info on 5 1/2 qts? thanks

Oil level

After reading about ways to slow down or even stop the oil from getting into the intake tube, I read where someone said that SVT told them to short it by a half quart. I called SVT myself and asked about this. It was back in December 2001. The person who answered the phone, said that they knew about this and that it wasn't too bad a thing. He said that after working on the problem, SVT decided to just suggest to short it by a half quart. He said that it would not hurt to do that. Well, I did that with the next oil change and so far, it has worked. I still may get a little drop or two, but nowhere what it was. I keep an eye on the level a lot and it stays right where I last saw it. Of course the syn oil helps as it always did, Call SVT yourself if you would like to see if this is there last idea on the subject..
