Cool Half a Lightning

Just wanted to post some photos of my little project. No it is not an item that is for sale. It is destined for my Ranger, which will run half a Lightning motor in displacement. This is half of my induction system and the other half will be a 90 cubic inch Eaton to help out the pumping choirs. Both will be intercooled.

Believe it or not the target is somewhere between 600 and 750 HP with at least 600HP at the rear wheels. The block in the photo is a 1979 turbo motor and it is brand new (23 years in the crate) and it's sole purpose is to be a test fixture. The real motor is damn near bullet proof as some of the ARCA guys may know.

With that much expected hp, will you have to use any kind of turnbuckle to hold the motor. And, what are your plans for the trannie and differential. Is this a Ford 9 inch type of setup.

Thank you Captain "O"
I must say that the header was designed not only for fit and finish but high performance too. It is a true 4/2/1 design of equal length ( maybe a little cheating )with a merge collector. I hope that we did our homework well as the diameter and length of straight pipe leading to the turbo were based on a theoretical perfect model. It is made from high heat stainless steel (321) and all tubes were polished before and after assembly. It is a one off and I intend to keep it that way by destroy the fixture it was built on. Thanks again.

Actaully I shouldn't have said manifold, thats a header leading to a turbo. Are they equal lenght? Also how many Esslinger Racing parts are on that engine?

Do you post over on the fordranger boards? If you do I would suggest not show those pictures cause they will probably hunt you down to do that work for them When I had my ranger I so wanted to drop in a 2.3L turbo with the t-5 transmission. Maybe one day.

Did you build the merge collector? I worked for a header company awhile back. We had our merge collector work farmed out because none of the guys in the shop could get them right. We copied Burns design and had Tim Engler do the hard work. Tim was one of the guys that built the multi engine pulling tractors and now builds sprint car motors. He is a very bright and talented guy
