Good luck trying to get the dealer to simulate the 135 MPH blast
You could have probably just bounced the rev limiter or something.

Just a side note....I was going to bring my truck back to the dealer a few months ago for driveline vibration. It only occured at 85-100 MPH. They told me i shouldn't be going that fast and is no way they would be able to test it out.

I don't know what cutoff you're running into at 5500rpm's... I don't have that, and my truck (stock) makes it past 135 with room to spare...you might want to get it checked up before you put that chip in.

I also havn't had any spark plugs go flying, no rough idle, etc.

I auto cross mine and like to do the three digit blasts on free highways (we've got alot of 3-5 lane roads around here where I live that are empty at night), and I've got 33000mi..

The only engine problem I had was the intercooler...

I've pegged my speedo a few times and never encountered a cutoff or something. 34k and still

Looks like another meet on April 7th by Tobay Beach. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=259935

I'll let you know when I find out more info. I wonder how many L owners would show up for this. We could have a little mini meet or something.

Don't get overwrought....

Bot my 01 on May 8, 2001 with 12 miles on it. I drive it daily, to-and-from work. I race(1/4 mile) it almost every weekend--from 3-10 passes and it's done 5 dyno pulls. I now have 23,900 miles on it. It's fog lights are cracked --can you believe this??? What a rotten vehicle--there's no excuse for this type of shoddy build-quality .

Of course you are going to hear from the guys that have problems, or broken parts, engs, trans., etc. We should hear from them so we can be on the lookout for possible weaknesses. Just realize that there are many(I hope?) more guys with very little troubles to report---and many, ride them hard and sometimes put them away wet.

Btw, mine has yet to see or be touched by a dealer tech or anyone but me. I changed the plugs because of added boost and the possibility of detonation if I continued to use the 'hot', stock plugs.

I sincerely believe that my use(began at 4,000 miles) of a quality, synthetic oil(I chose Royal Purple--see sig.) is part of the reason my eng. has been 'perfect'(so far) and runs so well.

Dan

PICKED UP MY 01 ON 4/4/01 IT HAS 24,000 MI. HAS BEEN AT FORD ALMOST 3 WEEKS GETTING A NEW HEAD INSTALLED. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM MAKE SURE YOU ASK SOME BODY FOR A DEALER WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!! DON'T USE McCARVEL IN CENTER REACH ON LONG ISLAND!!! SVT CERTIFIED LIKE IT MEANS ANYTHING!!! ARTIE

I have 21000+ miles on my 01’ L and it runs great... I have the usual problems: slow rolling down passenger window, cracked fog lights (they lasted 3 months before cracking). I had the vibration between 85-100, cured that with a Magnaflow. Oh, and now a new windshield being installed tomorrow thanks to that rock hit on the freeway last night... $200. I don't flog my truck much, it's a daily driver and has never seen the 1/4 mile...

My 01 has never been to track or abused. Used daily almost 100mi. a day. Never even installed the psp parts. But there are to many head problems showing up. And blower motors put that much more stress on heads and head gasget's. My 01 poped a spark plug took thread lands with it. Also had oil leak on same side back of head pass side. the leak starts very slow look by bellhousing between block and trans, and starter motor. At first it looked like a dampness than got wetter. Bet there are more leaking than anybody knows. Its hard to see when it first starts. But if your getting close to your 3yrs. 360000mi mark you might want to check real close!! Artie.

hind site is 20/20- but i wish ford would have wen't with a more conventional way to make the power on our 2 gen L's ,these things do not seem to represent the built, ford tough logo and i am very hesitant to say even the stock 2 gen L's will see a high mileage scenrio like 100.000 miles plus without countless problems? I wish i would have followed the L boards before i purchased mine, hopefully my doubts are not justified in the end ?especially the end pockett that holds my wallet? LOL,live and learn

I've got 47,000 miles on mune now. I bought it in July 2000.

Pro-M installed at 6800 mi.
Swanson Chip at 13,300 mi
Truck Traks at 15,000 mi.
PSP pulley at 32,000 mi.

My truck is driven hard daily, in and around the massive traffic jam called Los Angeles. Also raced occasionally, with probably 40 or so, 1/4 or 1/8 mile passes with ET Streets.

No problems except the standard IC replacements and the "Clunk".

Still have the original trans with no signs of slipage. As long as you don't go overboard, you should not have problems.

The rough idle just isn't a Lightning problem. I had a 99 4x4 ORP with the 5.4l, and it had a rough idle too. Dealer said there was nothing wrong with it. Knock on wood, mine is runing great still.
From what I have seen and read personally, seems like the mods play a big part in the problems. Many of the people that I have seen with the engine problems are running with pullies, higher boost, chips, etc. That is just one of the risks you take when you mod, especially on a blown motor.

Slapshot I, have no mods done on my 01. Its had oil/filter every 3500 mi. mobil 1, its a daily driver. I, can't accept that plugs should have to be checked every 5000 or 10000 mi. because they come loose. bad batch of head gasgets ya that happens. but the plug problem is a design problem!! Now I've got a motor with 24000mi. they are still putting the pass side head back on its only been 10 days since they had all the parts??? Plus now you have a new head on pass side and origional on driver side could be a differene in compression due to valve sealing any number of variables. When you buy what is supposed to be there premier line you expect a better!!! Had an 01 screw that I traded in to get the L. had 5.4 with 26000mi when I,traded it in. no plugs pulled out or oil leak. Then you go to a dealer who touts there SVT certified. And does not know you get a loaner right away, or its supposed to be cleaned when serviced. Sounds silly or petty but if your in business and you tell a customer you'll do this or that they expect you to do what you say!! Sorry about the soap box. But I, want my truck back. Maby if people stop just accepting the BS because we all treat our trucks like there our kids. And most dealers know that. Artie
