Tach Adapter info, dispelling the myth
Tach Adapter info, dispelling the myth
The last two threads were quite interesting. I am close to both sides of the fence. The entire enthusiast push of the board seems to have left. The PEP tach adapter has been out for a while now. It is also extremely accurate. Sal is likely talking about the Autometer unit which was due out last month. The Mustang crowd has been hurting for them and PEP had them designed. Tons of us have talked to Autometer and they are supposedly out, but I have yet to test one for accuracy. There are ways to "rob" a signal to run a tach on COP ignitions, but only one accurate and correct way. The coil signal and modifying pickups for 1 cylinder applications is not correct or accurate.
Wantagen2 has his own beef with Sal, but if someone posted a link to Sal's site on an unrelated board and someone told the poster not to waste their money, Sal would have defended it. How can you waste money on a promised product that isn't out yet? Autometer has talked about theirs for at least 3 months now. Apparently MSD makes the Autometer unit and they are supposed to be coming out now. I'll believe it when I see it.
You may not need a tach in a Gen2, but anyone try to put a window switch in one with an accurate signal? The tach adapters that everyone is talking about do much more than run tachs. Some of the Mustang crowd are even hooking up Apexi fuel/timing controllers to do their own tuning and having quite remarkable results.
The push of any forum should be to post info and further the aftermarket field for our vehicles. Many more aftermarket companies watch the boards than any of you could imagine.

The tach adapters we will be carrying are not made by a large known company like Autometer and MSD, they are made private small company that is already making them for others. What we will be selling already exists, it's not an "unreleased" part. Just FYI.
No problem with the innovation. I hope for your sake you are going down the right technical road with them. I hinted to the wrong way. Not a flame, but I have watched many try and have very innacurate units.

There are tons of people in the know that rarely post. Two of the people getting flamed in the tach adapter posts are EXTREMELY technical. That is the reason many don't post, myself included. I have been flamed many times trying to get across to people the correct way only to have no one listen. It gets quite old. I just wanted to clear some things up. I can't figure out why everyone flamed a supplier of some high performance parts. Dan is a very honest guy and maybe he came across wrong, but his company has parts on the market now that many want. Heck, how many offroad pipes get sold and need mil eliminators?

5.0, I think all the "flaming" came about because Dan came on here and pretty much attacked me like I personally attacked him or something, when all I said was "hey, something cheaper is coming soon". Nobody ever said anything negative about his company or it's products, and then he came on here insinuating that my company was less superior to his because we are going to offer a similar product at a lower price.
You say that you are a constant reader of this board, so you should know that when a post gets dredged up by someone with only a few posts, and they are starting a debate or argument, that automatically the troll flag goes up.

We appreciate everyone’s input as long as they comply with a couple simple rules.
He didn’t - 3 members used the report to moderator function and we asked him to stop marketing his products on f150Online.
There are more than a couple vendors here who are NOT supporting vendors who REGULARLY contribute technical info without making it an infomercial about their products. They understand where the lines are and are careful not to cross them.

I agree 100% and we encourage the membership to tell us about new products they have installed and love. But the Millions and Millions of hits and the terabytes of bandwidth have to be paid for somehow. One of the ways that happens is that we ask the vendors to contribute to the site. For a vendor of high performance parts the supporting vendor program is really cheap advertising.
Steve has a pretty simple policy that is behind most of the decisions he makes here.
My interpretation of that policy is:
"You MUST make a valuable contribution to the site"
Members who are just here to cause trouble are NOT welcome- They are making no valuable contribution
Vendors who are just here to sell their products using Steve’s resources are NOT welcome. They are making no valuable contribution.
There is a section of the population who just doesn’t get it. They think the Internet is the Wild West and they are free to do what ever, where ever. They bitch because XYZ forum does it this way....
F150Online is NOT the Wild West.
We do the best we can. It doesn’t please everyone all the time but its the best system we have so were sticking with it.
Respectfully,
Doug

I don't know about the mil eliminaters that you speak of but I do know this. A first time poster normally doesn't come into this, or any other forum, and start arguments without reprocussions.
No one can walk into a group of friends and start insulting them without the whole group rebelling.
