Yeah, the plastic "collar" type shown in the illustrations in this thread. I'm getting it into the line ok, but after that... It's obvious nothing's releasing.

i used the plastic disc one time.. it was allright.. the second time i used it, it was hard to do...

after you push the tool into the line, push the line towards the tool, and it should unclip..

here's what i use now.. it's a lot easier.

You gotta have one of the tools shown in this post. Either the scissors type tool or the round plastic ones.

I have difficulty even using the 'tool'. Don't even try it without one.

The scissor type doesn't look like it functions the same as the plastic type. The plastic looks like it slides under/into the fuel line, but the scissor looks like it wraps the filter pipe then pushes off the line....... I'm heading out to look for a either tool, which one works better? Does the filter mounting bracket have to come off also to get the filter out?

the plastic disc is a PITA to use.. the metal scissor type is a little less of a PITA to use.. try to find some caps that will fit on the line to keep the gas out of your mouth.. ugh
the bracket does not have to come off..

Question

I have my new filter and the the scissors type tool I bought from Autozone ("OEM" brand, #25042, $5.00 ) . I want to be sure the tool has the correct diameter option before I get "into it". I have an early 01 SC with the 5.4L . The smallest size on the above tool is an inner diameter of 1/2 " although it is stated on the info card as being 3/8" . Does anyone know what the correct inner diameter of the tool halves is(when completely closed. ??

Exclamation

clonetek: thanks,, Is it true then that the 3/8" refers to a diameter of the fuel tubing or coupling ? I guess it is because there is no 3/8" dia measured on the tool itself.

i dunno dude.. i didn't measure it.. lol
i just know that the side marked 3/8 is the side i use, because the other side is too big. LOL LOL

i think the 3/8 is the fuel line that is on the filter itself?
