That is insane!!! I can give you 10 dealers names here that will sell under the X plan...you could have it shipped to CA and still save $3K+

Is there a difference on the L's that are for sale in CA (emissions)?

For you California guys interested in buying any vehicle, even an L, try this website www.redbook4autos.com. The website explains everything about how it works. I used it and was able to get my 2001 HD below sticker. I think it is primarily a southern California thing, but there may be some dealerships in northern California that participate in this program. Basically, you are supposed to be associated with one of the organizations on their list, but they don't really even check, you can just pick one that you have heard of. Anyway, I think it might be worth a try for some of you. This is a California only thing, as it says on their website. Good Luck!

I got mine with X-Plan and paid 28,831.40 plus sales tax. It was not easy to find, but just keep trying.

I talked with some Priceline folks and even they said they are having a harder time w/ the 2002 L's and getting a deal compared to the 2001's.

Ieatrice - When I spoke with the SVT people at Orlando FFW I was told production on the 02 L's was going to be around 4500 units. Reason given was Ford's economic condition and the planned loss of sales to the SCed Harley truck. I don't know how true this is, but it could account for the difficult time in getting someone to deal on a Lightning.

Just a Sugestion because I don't live in Sunny CA...

Go to Las Vagas, Get a P.O. Box and then have some Fun with the Lightning you bought on E Bay or X Plan for less than 29,000. Get a Nevada Drivers License while you are at it

Then Plan a couple trips a year to Las Vegas to Check your mailbox and enjoy your savings on Taxes.

Thumbs up

Got a GREAT deal from River Oaks Ford in Illinois!!

Had the itch to trade my '99 in and the dealer gave me a lot more than I owed on it.

Not only that, they sold it to me on 'A' plan.

Georgia dealers don't seem too bad on plan purchases. I went to a local SVT dealer and test drove a Lightning last Sunday. (Just as an aside, WHOA, I finally experienced firsthand what you guys have been talking about here. Whatta rush!) They had Ls with dealer premiun of $5,000, for list price of just below $38,000. They would not sell it to me on A Plan, but they did immediately lob off almost $8,000 and offered me the truck at slightly above $30,000. No plan, no nothing, just sale price. I didn't bite since I do have A Plan and I thought I could eventually find a dealer who'd accept one.

I send a few e-mails and did get replies in less than a day. Two offered to accept A Plan price on '02 Harley, and one declined. I didn't specifically ask about L because after the test drive, I felt it would be too small for me. After I get my new house in (hopefully) a month or so, I'll visit one of the dealers.

I talked with a guy here at my office in Cincy, OH who bought one in Columbus for 29. No plan....just old fashioned haggling.

He told me this dealer has to sell 75 vehicles a day to keep discount from Ford. Not sure if this is true or not but sure was a sweet price.

I paid 30K for my 2002 L, with the factory tonneau cover, this was tax, title, etc.! I wrote the check for 30K exactly & the salesman delivered it 65 miles to me @ home.

You know...I really shouldn't of asked how much everyone else could get a L for... It's really depressing!

2001 Lightning

I have a White 2001 Lightning with a 3# pulley, Diablo Chip and a JL Airkit. It has 9000mi. I just paid the tags, it has been garaged and never seen rain. Not a single scratch on it. I am thinking of selling it and am in Rocklin,CA
I would be willing to sell for a good price as it is still new. If you are at all interested email me at bret@starstream.net

You're not going to want to hear this either, but here it comes: I paid $27,727 out the door with the A-plan price on my '02.

The hardest part was finding someone to deal on any L. It helps if your old man has been a Ford manager for 26 years.

Keep shopping. The longer they sit on lots the more the dealer gets antsy to sell.
