6# pulley compared to a 4# pulley...

I currently have a 4#er on my Lightning (daily driver) and was wondering if changing to a 6# would be tipping the reliability scales a little bit for a daily driven L.

any info would be great thanks

Here's the deal:
These blowers were only designed to spin so fast...but their not exactly in the "Red Zone" with the 4# or the 6#!!!
The real worry is connecting rods...some engines have proven to be weaker than others, and with this inconsistency its a toss up on how much each motor can take such as: more boost + hard tuning ( not flaming )...or nitrous!!!
So its your choice, but if it were my only daily driver or I were tight for $$$ then I would play it SAFE...Ya gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em!!!
Since mine is a weekend warrior then ( as you can see ) I'm livin a little on the Dangerous side

I have read about plenty from STOCK to up to 8lbs. Plenty of guys have had stock ones let loose, 2lbers let loose, and so on....

Are more of the blown motors on 2001's than 99 or 2000's? I see alot of people with heavy modding that don't seem to have problems. I personally drive the living ***** out of mine like any of my vehicles and haven't had any problems other than 1 intercooler. I have 29000 on mine.

Keep your 4lb and add an interchangable upper. Extra boost when you want it.

I went from a 3# to a 6# and this is what happened. It bought me 2 tenths in the 1/8th mile, about 3 tenths in the 1/4 mile. It made my Hooking action very unpredictable. With the 3 it stuck every single time and that was real nice. Since I was haveing trouble I made some spring clamps and took off my traction bars and I have had better luck since then. On the road its about the same as the 3# as long as Im not running the front sway bar. I do still have the 3 just in case I want to go back to it and it only takes about 20 minutes to switch back and forth since the stock is already gone. Hope this helped. Over all I don't really think it was worth the trouble.

I know of 3 guys I have talked to that had a VIRGIN truck let loose within the first 5k miles. In any line or model of cars there are lemons or ones that will be weaker!! Some will be VERY strong as well. I guess when you start racing & modding yours you will find out what you got!!
