Question Weight reduction!

I know the basic things like taking the pass. seat out, removing hitch and spare, and, well.....thats all i know about. What else can be done to reduce weight? How much is too much before we start loosing traction?

thanks guys

Cool WEIGHT REDUCTION

I know of L owners cutting alot of weight out underneath the bed I haven't cut anything but I've heard that there is another 100 or 200 pounds underneath the bed you can get rid of but you can't use the bed of the truck for hauling anything heavy or have a spare tire on the truck again. You might want to ask someone who has done this for exact details on where to cut but it can be done. Maybe someone who reads this has done this can post a pic on where the weight can be cut.. Or if it is worth it??

One great weight reduction for racing is to get a set of Lightweight racing wheels and drag slicks. I just got a set of Bogart alluminum racing wheels and Hoosier tires. The rims weigh about 10 lbs each, so that is a weight savings of 40 lbs of rotating mass. If you get a set of front rims and tires thats even more weight savings.

Also if you get rid of the heavy cast iron exhaust manafolds and replace them with a set of headers that will save some weight.

Moving weight can be important also. Relocate the battery to the back of the truck. I'm going to figure out a way to put it underneath the bed attached to a frame rail.

I've seen a few people do this already.

Where did you purchase the Bogart's from ? Seem's to be very few distributors and no one on the net want's to list a price. I just bought the 28x16x10 Hoosier's and would like to find some light weight rims. I've give up on the idea of cheapo's. Thanks.

Cool

HI!... NEEDFORSPEED : You mean like this one. This is "NPP" (NEWMAN PERFORMACE PRODUCTS) battery relocation kit. It fits regualer F-150's, not sure about a LIGHTNING because of the staggered shock set-up.

What are the rules concerning mounting a battery in another place other than the stock location?

1. does it have to be covered?
2. do you have to have a cut off switch on the rear of the vehicle?
3. When the truck is running and cut-off switch is turned off does the truck have to stop?
4. Is there a specific gauge wire to use?
5. Does there have to be a vent if battery is in a box?
6. What size bolts must the battery be mounted with?
7. Does the battery if in a box have to be mounted seperate from the box?
8.???

RT - I remember you had done it.

Neal - I pulled an old thread on this and was thinking of calling Mike Troyer as you suggested back then.

easterisland - Good questions and I don't know all the answer but to be legal at some events their has to be a switch on the rear of the truck and it better cut-off the motor if it is running. I believe the purpose of the rule was to allow emergency crews to kill the engine in the event of a wreck or roll-over.

I've even thought of a custom fuel cell to go where the spare is.
This would transfer even more weight to the back.
