help with launching at track
help with launching at track
okay, a couple of questions...
what RPM's should i launch my truck at?
how big of a burnout should i do?
how much pressure should i run in the tires?
here are my mods..
stock converter
JDM traction bars
shift kit
MT ET Streets (26" x 11.5 x 16)
chip/filter/2lb pulley/cobra TB
is there a limit to how much i can stall the truck at the line?
(eg: 1500 rpms 2000 rpms?)
any help would be appreciated.. thanks!

i have never been to the track but have read a lot and this method seems to work.
start out at 1k rpm off the line. if you get no wheel spin bring it up 100 rpm every time untill you do. if you get too much wheel spin, back off 100 rpm untill you dont. as for tire pressure, the first time i go to the track im goin to start out with 28psi and see how i do.

Run anywhere from 18psi to 22psi in the slicks, finding which pressure works best. Once the tires start smokeing, give it a slow count of five. Then release the break and lift on the gas slowly as to not hit the rev limiter. Once the tires grab and the truck surges forward, slow down and stage. Pre stage the truck, and torque it up to about 1000RPM (You can try alittle more if the track is hooking up well). Slowly slip the brake so the truck rolls forward to stage. Tree comes down, let of the brake and roll into the gas fairly aggressively.
The following resuly has allowed me to pull 1.81 60's with the same mods you have at a track not known for it's awesome traction.

i've been running 15-16 psi in the et streets.. is that bad?
i got 1.88 60 fts with out the traction bars, and i want to launch harder, but i don't know if going over 1000-1500 rpms will be bad.

I dont have a pulley, but I'm pretty sure with ET streets you could get the rpms up to about 1500 and hammer it once you see the 3rd yellow. As long as the track is hooking decent, the ET Streets should not slip unless you are making gunga HP.
My left tire seems to always start smoking a few seconds sooner than the right one, so what I recommend is to point your mirrors down to your rear tires and watch both during the burnout, and once they both start smoking, could to 5, let off brake, tires will squeal and truck will go forward, stage, and let 'er rip.

Yo Brooks.............
I ran my '02 for the first time with M/T 's, yesterday at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
I have JDM traction as well. Here is what worked for me.
Watch left rear tire in rv mirror.
1st gear....bring RPM up gradually, hold brake hard
Once I see smoke off tire, I count one thousand one....thru five, while being careful not to go over 5000RPM.
Push it up into 2nd, ease off of brake, let it "walk out" while backing off throttle.
Stop. put it in neutral, two revs to get oil up, then put 'er in Drive, and you are good to go!
Make this a ritual....Do it the same way every time....( Or, you might forget to put it back in Drive.)
Temp was 45F, with a sustained 10-15MPH headwind. (not good)
Tire pressure: 17 lbs.
1st run: 1000RPM 1.83 12.55 @ 107.71
2nd run: 1100RPM 1.85 12.68 @ 106.83 (hot lap)
3rd run: 1400RPM 1.73 12.401 @ 109.49
