Question why do some people reflash their PCU?

I'm thinking about reflashing my computer. My L seems to be taking a dive for some reason. I don't beat on it and its stock with 47K miles. I always keep regular maintanance on it. I've tried a JDM street aggressive chip and air raid fliter and i definitely can tell its not as snappy. People say that i've gotten use to the power but i know my truck and right about now it's definitely slower with the mods than it was stock. I've tried everything from flushing my intake and cleaning my fuel system, changing the fuel filter twice in 3 weeks and installing NGK TR5's. I couldn't even outrun a new GMC pickup from a 65 mph WOT take off. My truck kinda shuttered at a top speed..Well i've decided to reverse everything . I took the chip out and as i was changing my oil I stopped to call JDM and ask them if i had to take the oil breather cap off since i disconnected the chip..They told me yeah because it may run too lean and i know that can cause detonation maybe..Next i'm gonna take the air raid system off and install my fatory air box and K&N drop in filter. I'm just kinda upset my truck doesn't stand up to its name anymore..Sorry for the long story but Ford tells me that reflashing my PCU may help ...Does anyone agree?

Haven't heard of reflashing the computer being a common thing, although some of the 99's with CUX1 have been reflashed with the CUX2 '00 program. From what you describe I would think that you may have a bad connection to your chip. Sometimes the contacts need to be cleaned again, as carbon buildup can occur. May not be the problem but worth a shot.

have you tried resetting the computer? are you sure your chip is making a good connection? are you using good gas?
i'm assuming that yours is a 99 lightning... have you had the intercooler replaced? my 00 ran like crap right before i had the intercooler replaced..

yeah..i havent tried resetting the computer but i'm gonna do that tommorrow..how long should i keep the terminals disconnected? I've always ran either Amoco or Chevron 93 octance..I had the intercooler replaced about 2 months ago. I'm just not getting that torgued gradual acceleration i use to have...Before i could gradually mash the gas and when you downshift it took off like a rocket..Now it seems like the truck is working harder to build boost and accelerate..But that was a thought, reseting the PCU..It worked last time so i'll try it again..Thanks!

99:

Disconnect the neg. cable--turn on the headlights--leave them on for about 5 mins.--turn them off-before you reconnect the neg. cable.

Btw, since you have a 99 L have you had the fuel pumps checked. Some 99s have had the f/p hoses blow off because of poorly designed hose clamps. PSP has a kit with higher pressure pumps and the right kind of clamps. If I remember correctly, your symptoms sound like the 'pump/hose' problem.
