2" rear drop, help or hurt launch?
2" rear drop, help or hurt launch?
I was thinking about putting in the Belltech 2" drop in the rear. I was just wondering how the truck would respond as far as launching. I have traction problems now that I installed the #4 pulley. I am still running stock tires and haven't been to the track yet this year. For those of you who have them, how hard are they to install? Can in be done with jack stands? Approximate time? Thanks
they will help your launch(IMHO) and make a BIG improvement in the daily driving profile and cornering.
Install is very straight forward and can be be installed in about an hour with a floor jack, jack stands, and a couple wrenches.

As Bob has stated, it will improve handling, drop rear so it is now even with the front.
Not a difficult job. Can be done in driveway with basic hand tools.
LFP has them in stock for $50.00 a set.

Hmmm, it was always my understanding that lowering a car hurt it's ability to transfer weight and resulted in sub-optimal launching, resulting in higher 60' times. Now granted our trucks sit very high stock so I'm curious as to whether they can be lowered a couple inches without drastically affecting 60' times.

I would think that lifting the rear spring mount point would give you a more favorable pinion angle, thus helping with launching, and with handling in general.
To put it another way-
I noticed a big improvement in launching ability when I dropped the rear. Handling also was improved.

Here is my take on the shackles.
Since the shackles are longer, it creates a longer pivot point on the rear of the spring. This will allow the rear to squat easier when launching at the track, giving you better weight transfer. Better weight transfer = more traction and better 60 ft times.

The bind becomes a problem due to the pinion angle once you get past a 3" drop. HP is lost. Once the NLOC.net is back up, I'll post some links regarding this discussion (rear drop, pinion angles and degrees off).
On a related note, bump steer is bad once you go past 1 1/2" drop in the front. There is a bump steer "kit" but it's not for sale.

i just installed the 2'' rear drop yesturday here is my opion,a couple of things to point out first
#1) yesturday was the very first time ive driven the L in sub 70 degree weather it was 35 out when i was trying to see how good or bad the L hooked
#2) i am on pretty much bald F1's
last year i was lucky if i got a chirp from my tires during the 1st 2nd shift, now after the drop i have no traction at any rpm in first gear and when it shifts it now completely breaks loose during the 1-2 shift which is kinda cool but not very good for the track,as for the ride and handling i really didnt notice much difference.
