Cracked fog lights

Maybe this is an isolated case, but two weeks after I got my 01' I noticed the fog light lens was cracked on the passenger side. Then less than a week later the driver side fog light lens was cracked also. Both continued to operate, but I don't understand how they could break so quickly. Someone told me that their's cracked and the warranty fixed them. Also I've noticed condensation/fog inside one of the tail lights after washing. That shouldn't happen if its well sealed. Should it? Anybody have this happen with their lightnings?

What you are looking for is 3m leading edge tape. Go to Google and search for it. One of the aftermarket fog light companys sold it by the foot. It is made to protect helicopter blades from sand. TThe guys that drive 24 hour races know all about this stuf.

Hope this helps

Welcome to the board, Jack!

I had the same thing happen to my '01. I told my salesperson about it and he immediately ordered me a new light. I am not sure how many times they will do this, because I am not sure if that was a warranty issue or just because is was so soon after I bought the truck. Anyway, I have heard that running them while driving in the rain is what causes it, however I don't know for sure.

I have never had the rear lights fog up on me. I would definately tell the dealer about it.

Good luck!

My 01's did the same thing. I was told that they would be replaced under warranty, but I haven't had time to take it in yet. Lights you can't use in the rain... now that is "Quality is Job 1".

I also had light issues with my '01 'L'. First the rear lights fogged up. Got them replaced with no hassle under warranty. Then the foggers cracked. Same thing. Replaced under warranty. Ask your service/parts department to replace them. If they don't do anything, and worse comes to worse,....bitch 'em out and threaten to take your business elsewhere. The light problems are part of the TSB's. The rears anyway. Don't know if the foggers have made it to TSB status as of yet. Save your clams for the light replacements for some mods. You'll get the lights for free if you state the problem and ask nicely.

My newphews' 01 has cracked 4 lenses over the last year approx
12,000 miles. These cracks are internal. Ford said they will not
replace them again under warranty due to his abuse! Of course
according to them no one else has reported this problem except
him. I agree it must be a heat issue he drives mostly at night with
them on. I never use mine so no problem yet. I feel Ford has not
seen the last of this issue.

I had mine replaced under warrenty with no problems. Just make sure that you tell them that they arecracked from the inside due to the heat not something hitting them on the road!!.

Thumbs up

rfat16, Nosdog2, Zeus lightning, and the rest of y'all that said the dealer would replace them were right. I just showed the service dept that the lights were cracked from the inside out and they replaced them with no hassel. They also replaced one of the tail lights due to condensation inside it.

Just checked our '01 with 5,000 miles and both are cracked. Guess I'll have Ford take care of it when it goes to the dealer on Tuesday.
