Carefully put a flathead screwdriver in the recess on the light control panel (at the bottom part line). Leverage the screwdriver gently so that the tip is pushing the piece forward, and the 3 clips inside will release after stubborn resistance. I got mine to come out after 2 clips released, and then I put down the screwdriver and gradually pulled the 3rd clip loose (no sense risking damage to the lip of the plastic part.

nevermind

sorry, I had listed a procedure that applies to 99 model trucks only, my fault.

you don't just pry the assembly out on 99 models, they work quite differently, if you pry a 99 out, you will most likely break it and it'll just hang there loosely until you buy a new one.

Thumbs down

STOP!!! Don't try that on your 01 or you will have to replace the whole switch!!!!! I did that when installing my carbon fiber and broke the switch!!! Just do it as stated in the first response and you will be fine.
