Thumbs up Do you believe 45,000 mile front rotors?

These baby's must have been Ford rejects. Too durable!

I'm having the front rotors turned for the first time at over 45,000 miles. They are just a little warped now. I've never had rotors go more than 15,000 miles on any I vehicle that I have ever owned.

Most of this was around LA, with it's stop and crawl driving. This means you are on the brakes constantly, as well a making a lot of complete stops from 65-70+ MPH down to zero. I've used 3 sets of pads in that same amount of time.

I'm simply amazed at the durability.

Ours only lasted about 30,000 miles. They had all kinds of stress cracks in them. So we got the new spiffy ones.

Lightningboy, what did you replace them with?

Since mine have been machined down, I don't expect them to last very long.

We replaced them with some drilled and slotted rotors. They were cheaper than OEM rotors and seem to hold up well. Ill get ahold of dad and see where he got them from.

Thumbs up

That's incredible considering the L.A. traffic.

Not 100%, but I'm pretty sure when I was replacing my rotors, Lightning Boy told me he had Raybestos rotors, and then had them drilled and slotted by someone local. Of course, I could be wrong. Jay, the rotors I have are Raybestos (in the back). I've been thinking about getting Stans' (Ruslows) Rotors. He has the factory rotors and has had them drilled and slotted. The cost is about $60 more than what I payed for my rotors ($200)

Dimpled and slotted. Drilled rotors don't work well unless the holes are cast into the rotor.

George, have you tried the cryo treated rotors? Do they really last longer than the non-cryo rotors?

No, but I do remember that Ruslow mentioned that his can be sent out to for treating. For now, if I run his rotors, I'll be checking my lugnut torque thoughout the day at the track events. That way, I'll get (hopefully) 2000 miles out of them. Of course, they'd last longer if I didn't thrash them on a track.

After I get the track rotors (big brake kit), it won't matter because I'll have a set of rotors, calipers and brake pads for the street and a set of the same for the track. The track rotors are only $35 so if they only last one event, it's only a small loss.

45k is amazing!!! Especially considering that EVERY single Ford, car or truck, I have EVER owned, has had crappy rotors that warp WAY too quickly. That is about my only ongoing complaint with Ford, well, and the front ends that destroy tires.
I looked at mine a few weeks ago when I rotated my tires, and they looked fine, haven't been touched in 17,500 miles.
