LIGHTNING OWNERS invited - SVO Reunion 2002 - Alabama
LIGHTNING OWNERS invited - SVO Reunion 2002 - Alabama
Hey guys,
First and foremost - I would like to introduce myself and our club. My name is Bud Morton. I am one of seven Directors of the SVO Club of America - www.svoca.com . We are a NON-proffit ENTHUSIAST club for the Mustang SVO. We have been around for five years now. Every year, we host an event we like to call the "REUNION." Since 2000, we have invited LIGHTNING OWNERS to join us for an affordable weekend of Drag Racing, Show/Shine, and Autocrossing.
So - that's why I'm here - to invite y'all to the 2002 Reunion. Scheduled for Oct 25-27th, 2002 in Talladega, AL
Friday - Drag Racing at STEELE Raceway
Sat, Show/Shine at the Motorsport Museum
Sun, Open Track at TGPR
You can print Reunion info and the registration page that's in the EVENTS section on the www.svoca.com As it stands - we have classes for Gen I and Gen II Lightnings. The more Trucks that register, the more we'll break them down by specific year and/or mileage...or modified/original
This year there is one major CHANGE from years past. On Sunday, instead of Autocrossing ...it's OPEN TRACK - yes, we have rented the Talladega Grand Prix Raceway - a 1.3mi Open Track road course. There's a pic of it on our site.
We tried to post this on the nloc site - like we have done since 00' - but for an amazingly odd reason, the Webmaster and President accused us of trying to generate income for our group...and that we are "vendors" - and if we want to post on the nloc site, then we have to become a SPONSORING VENDORS - so they deleted our thread and eliminated myself and another Director from their site. You figure it out guys....cause we're at a lost.
Guys, We're not trying to sell you anything. We're not even trying to get you to join our club...besides, if you don't own a SVO, what's the point, right? All we're doing is inviting Lightning Owners to join us for a weekend where you can 'hang out' with like minded folks. There is a charge if you enter the Show/Shine or Open Track - but it is NOT REQUIRED for you to enter either to attend the event. But, if you don't enter the Show/Shine - then you're not included in the drawings for door prizes or participant judging for trophies. Just ask anyone who has attended our events in the past. WE HAVE FUN!!
If you have any questions, you're welcome to email the Board of Directors at svoca@svoca.com - all 7 of us will receive the email and someone will respond within 24 hrs to your inquiry.

I will be there with 2 other Lightnings.....For anyone thinking about going, I have been for the last two years and it has been awesome!!!! It will be even better when we have a ton of Lightnings show up......If you have never tried auto-cross you need to. This year the Auto-cross will be at Talladega Road course. If you have any questions about what all goes on e-mail me.

Actually Graeme - we replaced the Autocross portion this year with an Open Track at the TGPR's 1.3 mi Road Course. I know the SCCA AL guys run an autocross there - but we rented the track ALL to ourselves. There is a LIMITED number of entries available for the Open Track....so, if you interested - you better get serious if you want to participate on the Road Course. The limit is 30 - we already have 6 entries for the Open Track....and expect to fill it in no time.
I have driven my 'very close to stock' SVO there several times. I'm able to reach speeds between 100-110mph on the back straightaway. Trucks and Drivers will have to pass a tech inspection - you will need a SNELL 95 or better helmet. PASSENGERS are allowed - as everyone has to sign a wavier to enter the property. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. We cover everything in the Drivers Meeting - but sometimes, you'll need to have questions answered prior to that. I suggest you get those brakes/fluid checked and replaced. Race tires are NOT a big necessity - the track is very sticky.

Where exactly in Alabama is that (far north, central, south?)?
45 min East of Birmingham, AL
90 min West of Atlanta, GA

I understand about the mileage factors...but when you consider - it's really less than an 8 hr drive from ALOT of cities.
If you average 65mi per hour - not driving 65, but factor in fuel stops, pee stops, food, and so forth...avg 65 mi per hour...I looked up mileage distances online with the mileage calculator.
Raleigh, NC - 7.25 hrs
St Louis, Mo - 7.5 hrs
Tampa, Fl - 7 hrs
New Orleans - 5 hrs
