2003 Lightning

Okay everyone...not trying to run on but, has anyone heard of any changes for 2003 with the L. I have a lot of travel with my company for the next 6 months so I will wait to order until fall if new heads or rods are coming. Thanks again, all info or speculation is welcome.

Hey guys, word from Michigan is that SVT will either build a 03 L or there will be a powertrain option for all 2WD in the fall with the Harley motor being an option, fingers crossed here for sure.

I spoke with the SVT people at FFW in Orlando and they said the 03 L will probably be a carry over from the 02 model. They went on to say they are waiting to see what if anything Dodge does with their new truck. Hope this helps.

I haven't been watching this board much lately and w/o search I don't know what you guys have been saying about this new truck. But with the viper engine will the price prevent it from becoming a threat? How cheep can 500 hp come? The projected performance numbers don't look that great for that kind of power. Someone please catch me up on what the Lightning community thinks.

Thanks

Dodge

"waiting to see what if anything Dodge does with their new truck. "

What is there to wait for? The truck is ready for production and will be introduced in August-September. If that's their response, it would seem that the Dodge boys have really caught them by surprise. As a company, Ford really seems to be paralysed at the moment.

Note: I have seen the SRT Ram in Detroit and have read about it on the weekend. Its a really nice vehicle and will have good weight distribution due to its aluminium block which is lighter than their iron block V8. But the one thing I love about my Lightning are the amazing seats which are simple but increadibly comfortable. These are the best seats that Ford offer and they are significantly better than the mustang. ( as indicated by Automobile, Motor Trend and Car and Driver). The Ram SRT has a bench type seat with no lateral support. On a 503HP vehicle???

For that reason alone, I would never buy this vehicle and I'm impartial to any brand.

The 03 Lightning will come with a twin turbo 6.7L DOHC motor pumping out 800HP @ 8000RPM and 950TQ @ 3000RPM

Thumbs up

that must be the "Bill Brasky" special edition Lightning, i keep hearing about. it's supossed to run on tap water, and push slow drivers in the fast lane over, with some kind of magnetic field.

Talking 2003 L

According to salesmen here/SVT people no changes everything is focused on the new super-charged Focus and the Mustang. Also a Harley truck with the L engine in it ! Made a comment about the viper motor in the Dodge they said it was concept but, that it would cost $45,000.00 probably to consumer. And Fords answer might just be the Austin Martin 12 cylinder! Good Luck. hope this is jibberish. Later!

Makes sense... They only have a certain number of engineers, and the all-new SVT Focus and totally reworked Cobra must've taken a lot of their resources. Hopefully they wouldn't try to redo the Lightning on top of all that workload. I'm prepared to wait a little longer to make sure they give the new L the proper focus.

Ford's 5.4 was scheduled to get 3 valve heads for '03 but with their economic turmoil I've heard it was pushed to '04 then I heard it was still on schedule for '03. Time will tell.

I think the best rumor is the V-10 with the new and improved Eaton sitting happily between the fenders of the 03 1/2 Lightning. It is to be called the "BBQMAN LIGHTNING"
