Dual batteries?

After installing my third amp in my truck I have come to realize that my power demand is a tad bit too high ie I can't leave my stereo on for more than 5 minutes without it cutting off due to lack of power. Is there any way to fit two Optima yellow tops under the hood? I was thinking about replacing the windshield fluid and then butting two in that space. Any suggestions?

http://www.wranglernw.com/ makes them for the F150's and SuperDuty's. Part #100-325. They should fit the "L". Very pricey at $300+

Caps would take the strain off the alternator.

Pulling that much wattage you really need to pull from a cap instead of the battery directly.Ask around.I think you'll find a lot of SPL freaks can testify to that.It solved some problems for me.It will definitely save your alternator.Hows the weather in rice town?

Caps really don't solve power problems, nor do they 'save' the alt. What they do, simply they ensure the amps can get the needed amperage during large draws. The differance between the battery and cap is that caps discharge VERY quickly, whereas a battery does not. Now with that said, remember that the capacitor recharges JUST as fast, so the strain on the electrical system is still there. Now 2 batteries is a little more complicated than just tossing another one in there. Why? Well you need to run an isolator and or an alt that has two output terminals. By adding two batteries together you change the float voltage of the batteries which means it requires a differant type of charging, (you will see it in any boat charger designed to have mroe than one battery.) I have seen people run two batteries in parallel and its worked fine for awhile, but 99% of them end up killing the alt, or one battery will kill the other) My suggestion is upgrading the alt to a larger unit. Unfortunatly they are quite expensive (600-2000$) for a good one. ANother idea is to take your stock one to a alt rebuilder and have them beef it up, most the time they can bring up the output by 20-50%.

Just my two cents
Brandon
