Exclamation MUST READ: Updated intercooler failure report

I just spoke with the dealer about my "updated" intercooler leak. It was confirmed that it was leaking - one of the copper tubes blew out again. This was a correct replacement (9 tubes) for the recall, but somehow, I managed to blow it up. Now, here is where it gets interesting. In speaking with the Ford people today, there has been another engineering update (the second round of trying to fix the problem) on the supposed fixed intercooler. I don't know what this new part number is yet - as it will be on my paperwork when I get the truck back early next week.
Those with the recall performed should keep an eye on the intercooler resevoir, as I am told it to will fail. I guess we will see how this "new" one performs.

Phil

What affect does a bad intercooler have on the other engine components?

Now, my question is this - if we still do not have a definitive answer to this problem, will the repairs still be covered under some type of warranty?

I hope this is going to be a recall item again cause I'm at 37,000 miles. I haven't noticed antyhing going down but then again I've only put 500 miles on my truck since the last recall.

I am bringing it in for new o2 sensors soon, so I'll check it out too!

I wonder if this is leaking if I can request a rebuilt motor under the recall? with manely rods of course!

Cool

The new intercooler has 10 rows.

The old intercooler had 9 rows. If you have 9 rows then you've got the wrong one.

You guys are right - in my haste of getting the message on the board, I inadvertently gave the wrong number of rows on the cooler. Just wanted to keep everyone abreast of this major issue. Hopefully I am the only one that this will happen to.

While it was in at the dealer, I got a few other things done that I didn't expect. They put new exhaust tips on it since the old ones looked terrible. They fixed the drivers side seat (upright portion on the left side) - cushion came loose inside and rolled off to one side. Getting the top of the truck repainted due to cracked paint. Lets see, what else... Power steering leak, and steering wheel lights not working. I think that is all of it... and it only has 32,618 miles

Try Saint Spearco. I think he's the patron saint of heat exchangers.
