Cool Any Consensus on the Best Air Filter Option?

Sorry for bringing up the same old subject again. I am the happy owner of a 2002 True Blue!! (This is my first post)

Here are my choices:

1. drop in K&N Filter and possibly drill holes in the stock airbox for more air.

2. Replace Stock airbox with FIPK kit

3. Ram air system that replaces filter and puts tubes to force air into truck (pricey and convoluted)

here's another one:

Does anyone have any preferences over any of the above choices?

Is there much difference between the Johnny Lightning and JDM setups?

Is there a huge difference with the ram air setups compared to the FIPK's?

Did I mention that I'm the proud owner of a 2002 True Blue?

I did the KN filter and the holes in the bototm of my air box because im kinda cheap. It makes the boost gauge go into the black. Makes a noticable diffrence

I plan on doing something with my air box this weekend. I got a drop in K&N on the way, but it will not be here until next week. Anyway, I am gonna go down to Home Depot tomorrow and see what I can do about making my own ram air system. In my opinion, by just drilling the holes in the bottom, you are making a tradeoff for more air, but it will be hot. Those holes in the air box are gonna suck in hot air from the engine compartment, so the boost may go up, and you may see an increase in HP, but not as much as if you can get more fresh, cool air.

All the tuners that sell ram air sytems have good setups, they are just a little too pricey for me. They are all using the cone filter, which is optimum air flow, and they are getting cool air to the filter on top of that. If you have the cash, and want a premium setup, then I would buy one of their setups. Personally, I do not race my L, and never plan on it so if I can make my own ram air setup with a drop in filter, then that is just fine by me. If you plan on racing your L, then I would go with a ram air setup from one of the tuners. If you don't plan on racing it, then I would just do domething myself to increase air flow to the engine.
