Wreck rant

I was involved in a wreck this weekend. A new 2002 expedition ran a red light and hit a car crossing and knocked it into the truck( I was stopped at the light). No big deal, wrecks happen. The little ricer was totaled because it was mashed between the two of us.

Her husband shows up in another new 2002 expedition, so I was not worried about the insurance thing.

Well guess what, they only had $10,000 for both vehicles and injuries. This is really getting ugly, Man people are stupid!!!!!

I got thier address and drove by, they live in a modest house and can no way afford those new Fords. They must have gotten them in a settlement or something.

It's hard to share your air with fools!

Too many people have minimum policies, so I have to counter by having "underinsured" coverage on my policy - covers bodily injury/loss of earnings that the bare minimum ones don't address.
Your own comp/collision should pick up the rest of the repair - if you have it

Yea, they are but my claim will bring rate increases. I will be out the deducitable, time without my truck and the worries. They came into my life and changed it and left me to make it correct again.

Just wantabe rich people acting like humans.

I dont advocate sueing, but in your case that is the exact thing to do. I was in an accident driving my brothers suv, and was PARKED and got plowed into. The guy had 10000$ in coverage for vehicles. Damages were upwards of 8500 for the other car involved and 6k for mine. I ended up paying my deductible and my insurance company went after the individual. I got nothing, but I know my insurance company got some of what they had to subsidize back.

Just because the house doesn't look so nice doesn't mean that they don't have any money! Maybe they are hardly ever home and don't need the big house. If they don't have money, maybe you will be getting the "GOOD" 2002 Expedition! Minium insurance rates are WAY to low. I just switched insurance companies and the agent couldn't believe that I'm 26 and carried such high rates. She said most guys my age onl go for the minium, but I like to protect myself as much as possible also. I also don't advocate suing people in an "accident", but if they aren't going to carry adequate coverage, you have to go after them. Not only is your truck wrecked, but it also lost value since it is a limited production vehicle, I would also bring that up in court. Just my $.02

Accidents that are NOT your fault should NOT increase your rates at all! Yeah, it sucks not having the truck (good that Ford gives us loaner cars at least for servicing) but, keeping all the receipts for rental cars and deductibles, etc., your insurance company may pick it all up or --- you might be able to work with the guy who hit you.

(no, I'm not in insurance, and not an attorney, just a chiropractor with too many years experience in this stuff )

Accidents that are not your fault can still cause your rates to increase. Recently, someone hit my truck while it was parked. It was badly damaged on the passanger bed side. Several estimates were at $1500 so I went with insurance because of my deductable was at $250 or uninsured motorist. I talked to several different agents and was told that every year all my claims among other stuff are evaluated to determine if my rates increase or decrease (yeah right). If my uninsured motorist claim is large enough (would not specify) then my rates will go up. Also if it was not that large, but something else happens they would take it into account. Which pretty much said, if I make another similar claim then it would go up.

Well, after getting the repairs done everything totalled at about $3000. Apparently there is a price difference between a regular F150 and a SVT bed side, and the SVT bed sides take a long time to order. So after having the insurance pay for the rent car for almost a month, polish out the scratched rim, and pay for the SVT damage, I dont think they were happy. And if they didnt know what a SVT Lightning was, they do now because all of thier estimates were way off until repairs started to happen.

BTW, this was from a respectable insurance company.

Well, good luck in getting everything settled.

Any time your insurance company gets involved (gives you or body shop check to fix vehicle, then goes after other insurance company) your rates are almost always going to go up. This has happened to me a few times because I did the right thing by reporting my accident to them. You pay insurance to have a piece of paper in your vehicle that states you are covered and nothing more. The minute they have to do anything (get estimates, send out checks, etc., etc.), there is a good possibility your rates will go up. The ideal thing to do is to get the other person's insurance company to pay or have the other person fork over the cash. A person that has been hit should not be charged anything by their own insurance company. Unfortunately, insurance companies are money grubbers and are out to make a big buck.

just my .02s worth
